    Happy Father's Day

The last picture was when I was 12 years old in 1953. My Dad and his friends used to to a backcountry deer hunt in California every year. A pack station packed all our gear on mules and we rode horses to our camp about 15 miles in the backcountry. We stayed for a week. My Dad let me go and get...

    Happy Father's Day

To all the Fathers out there....Happy Fathers Day to you all. I remember my Dad as the example in my life of what life and Fathers are all about. He was the rock of our family and the example for myself and my sisters to look up to. Dad passed in 2012 and is missed, but still in my life. 3...

    The new age of Hunting

For me it is less than 400 yards, unless conditions are perfect. The longest shot I have ever tried was about 500 yards (pre range finder days) and it was unsuccessful due to winds across a canyon. The longest kill shot was 450 on an antelope.

    The new age of Hunting

Everyone should know their own limitations and their equipment limitations. That isn't to say all hunters will stay within these limitations. I also believe that some of the TV hunting programs have done hunting and hunters a disfavor by showing the shooting of animals at extreme ranges. They...

You are right about that. I had a 2 4 stroke outboards (Mercurys) that were great.

    Broken Stuff

I would rather work on an older 2 stroke than the newer 4 strokers. Same with cars....older is definetely easier to work on!

    2023 draw results

I will be hunting private land cow elk. One of my Masonic Lodge brothers has some land not too far from my home place and he gets some land owner tags each year. He told me he is saving a cow tag for me. It will be a great freezer filler and a lot of fun with his family, especially his...

    Lithium

I was drinking my morning coffee and watching the news on CNN when they did a segment on the new Lithium deposits in the geothermal area at the southeast part of the Salto Sea i California. In the 50's my Dad and some of his hunting buddies bought 160 acres for a duck hunting club right in...

How to Keep Safe While Hunting

The guy is an "internet marketer". This is what he posted in his "About" area. As far as I am concerned this is just a way to get around our Spam rules. I'll be watching him closely.

    Knee Replacement Surgery

I feel like I got my Get Out Of Jail card today! My knee surgeon says I can start bending my knee to 90 degrees and don't have to wear the brace while sleeping at night. More aggressive PT with the goal of removing brace totally in a couple of weeks. My Surgeon was really pleased with my...

It's May, but feels like August!

The first time I was at Powell was in 1972 when the lake was filling. It was raising a foot a day then too.

It's May, but feels like August!

Yep lots of snow still up in the La Platas. I have not run my sprinklers either. Just turned them on and adjusted them as needed. The Dolores River is running at almost 5000 cu ft. This week we lost a rafter too. Lake McPhee is full and the Dolores down river is roaring.

It's May, but feels like August!

For the last 2 to 3 weeks it has rained every afternoon. Feels like August and Monsoon season. This afternoon it clouded up (after a beautiful sunny morning), lightning, thunder, hail and rain. We got over 1/2" and it's still raining. My place looks like a jungle with the weeds taking over. I...
