I have been slowly upping my pack weight and speed on my daily 3 1/2 mile training hikes. Am up to a 27# pack and doing the distance in 56 min. I have to force myself to not break out into a run, as I had to quit running years ago for a reason. It is so easy to get injured or over-train/strain when you get older. Am adding a few pounds to the pack every few days. Six pounds left to drop and I am back to my Marine Corps weight from 43 years ago.
Active rest day turned out to not be very restful.......4.15mi hike to retrieve a treestand, 7lbs goin in, 35 coming out, followed by a rough 5 miles of single track mountain biking on hiking trails. Burnt off about 1300 cals on these 2 activities.
