Well, I did it. Picked up a used LH Mathews Halon 32 - 5. 70# and I switched my mods from my 6” bow so draw length is an inch short (26”) but with just a little tweaking I was drilling em’ in there at 40yds. Definitely need to get back to 27”. Even at 26” and with 440gr (wrong spine arrows) I...
Tough to beat that 300wby in my opinion. I just built a 6.5-300 and hopefully I can report on it’s elk performance in just over 2 weeks. Recoil....get a lead sled to bench shoot, never once felt the big 300 when I shot a critter.
Selling my Mathews Halon 6 with 50lb limbs and setup for 27” draw. Switching to lefty and had a few deals fall through so I figure it can’t hurt to list it here. Bow is in mint condition, just need to switch to more poundage for elk hunting. Has 7 pin IQ Micro sight, whisker biscuit rest, 8...
Just thawed this out. Last year’s venison, seasoned & stuffed it tonite. Grill, chill, vacuum seal & freeze for my upcoming hunt, makes for ez dinners, just heat it up.
I second that! I have 2, 1 on a 257 wby and 1 on a 300 wby. I have a VX-5hd 3-15x44 on my 6.5-300 wby and its even a tad sharper than the 3i’s. Pushes closer to that $1000 mark though.
It’s not but I could keep my Mathews quiver and whisker biscuit so I’d only be in to it for a new sight. Never used a stabilizer but i may entertain one now.
Yes it is a used bow, and to some that may seem like not such a good deal but those bows fit me great and I really like them so it would be worth it to me to stay with the same bow with a small up charge. So much of archery accuracy is comfort.
So I cranked mine all the way in today. Dont have a bow scale to say for sure but its a 60# bow so its gotta be close to that. Got avg of 240fps which is about 20fps more than I started with @ 440gr total arrow weight. I’d still be reluctant to take a shot past 40 on an elk. Bad thing is my...
IMO - the youth hunts do a disservice by segregating the time that kids hunt - they should be hunting form opening day to the last day, not some arbitrary special day with special regulations and such. Just bring your kids hunting all the time.
I fully intend to, this is her first year...
Not a hunting story.....yet. My daughter is 7 this year and in PA she can use one of my antlerless tags and harvest a doe with my supervision. She says she really wants to go and is a crack shot with her 22 cricket from my lead sled so today I set her up like this and she was drilling silver...
