Good luck man. 80 miles....good grief. I think I am doing good when I do 25-30 miles in a week. This past week was supposed to be a small cut back week for me, but ended up being a big time cut back week. Ended up only logging 38.1 miles making it the lowest mileage week for me so far this year.
Had a productive week at work, and a fun weekend with the family though so I guess maybe I have my priorities where they need to be.
This week is planned to be my highest mileage ever in my life, with 80 miles on the schedule, so maybe the cut back week was a good thing. Also have my longest run ever planned for this weekend, my first ever 30 miler.
My 50 mile race is coming up in just under 4 weeks!
One of my favorite athletes of al time used to to say that "Rest is a weapon." I think there is more truth to that than a lot of us realize. This past week was supposed to be a small cut back week for me, but ended up being a big time cut back week. No real nutrition plan yet. Leaning toward just going through a few gels (like 10 or 12) and a few salt tablets and calling it good. I did a trail marathon a few weeks ago as a training run at an easy pace and only used 2 gels during it and never did feel like I actually needed anything. When I ran my first marathon as a true race I think I used 5 or 6 gels during it. Those last 24 miles will take some real calories, but I've been working on training my body to burn fat as fuel to the extent possible. I've done a couple 16 and 18 mile runs with no fuel at all going out on an empty stomach in the morning so I do think I won't have to be using 20 or 30 gels to get through the 50 miler.Good Luck Nathan with your 50 miler. What is your nutrition plan? Family crewing for you? Pacer?
