Hoping to get back into the swing of things tonight with the weights as I've been fighting a virus and then try running tomorrow.

Did Chest and Traps last night. Felt good working off the "crud".
I hope to get in some cardio tonight, but I'm also polyurethaning doors in my basement. This could be a bad combo....

Did a pretty intense lower body night. 5 rounds of tire flips, then drag, dumbell squats, and medicine ball slams. Then 2 sets of lunges for good measure.

I am thinking a hike may be in store for Saturday.

well folks.....had my last session with physical therapy today! I started this round of tx about 3 months ago. Did some testing today to see how far I have come and let me just say... DAMN! its good to not be in pain!
Now I just need to keep it going. We've set up a realistic exercise routine for my back, knee and all those little stabilizer muscles that hold it all together: 3x a week working core and stabilizer stuff, 3x a week for cardio/endurance. First time in a long time I actually enjoy working out.

Got back into 34 inch waist Wranglers again. Still 30 pounds over where I'd like to be...

Skipped Sunday's long run but added mileage to the short runs during the week. 13 miles this next Sunday, Race in 2 weeks.

Took the Llamas on a hike yesterday, they need to be in shape too. I lift 4 days a week with my son's football coach, he is an animal and really pushes me. It is great to have a lifting partner for the days when you just don't feel like it. Also, over the summer, I get to lift with my son and his buddies on the team - that will get the blood going. I take hikes on the ranch with my wife. She speed walks and I load my Eberlestock with 40 lbs and try to keep up. I'm 46 now and in decent shape. 5'7" inches short, weigh 165 lbs, bench and squat over 250 lbs, so the off season program is where it all happens.

This past week was supposed to be a small cut back week for me, but ended up being a big time cut back week. Ended up only logging 38.1 miles making it the lowest mileage week for me so far this year.

Had a productive week at work, and a fun weekend with the family though so I guess maybe I have my priorities where they need to be.

This week is planned to be my highest mileage ever in my life, with 80 miles on the schedule, so maybe the cut back week was a good thing. Also have my longest run ever planned for this weekend, my first ever 30 miler.

My 50 mile race is coming up in just under 4 weeks!

Good luck man. 80 miles....good grief. I think I am doing good when I do 25-30 miles in a week.

One of my favorite athletes of al time used to to say that "Rest is a weapon." I think there is more truth to that than a lot of us realize.

Good Luck Nathan with your 50 miler. What is your nutrition plan? Family crewing for you? Pacer?

Did our "Long Run" for the Trail HM on the 11th. Tougher than I remembered but it was hot for March. Morning was 35 and it hit a high of 80 on the run.

Then went out and nailed a yardbird that afternoon.

No real nutrition plan yet. Leaning toward just going through a few gels (like 10 or 12) and a few salt tablets and calling it good. I did a trail marathon a few weeks ago as a training run at an easy pace and only used 2 gels during it and never did feel like I actually needed anything. When I ran my first marathon as a true race I think I used 5 or 6 gels during it. Those last 24 miles will take some real calories, but I've been working on training my body to burn fat as fuel to the extent possible. I've done a couple 16 and 18 mile runs with no fuel at all going out on an empty stomach in the morning so I do think I won't have to be using 20 or 30 gels to get through the 50 miler.

My wife is going to run the 10K distance at the same race and then crew for me after she is done. The course is almost a figure 8 with about a 6 mile loop on one end and a 10 mile loop on the other end so she might make that last 10 mile loop with me if I need her.

The race is down near Houston so it is going to be warm and HUMID so that is my biggest concern. I'm going to be practicing with various cooling options like ice bandanas and things like that as I get closer. I'm going to pretty much cover every possible surface with body glide as well. I will more than likely be soaking wet with sweat for about 49 of those 50 miles.

P.S. - Congrats on the turkey!
