Low carb diet is working for sure. Down six or seven pounds, and energy is still good. Work and grappling practice are all I have been doing, but think I will lift tonight.

Last weekend did 14 miles in the mountains with the packs on and scouting. This week, 5 days of lifting, 2 days cardio, 4 days shooting the bow, 2 nights in the hot tub and lots of fresh stuff from the garden. Weight is down from 175 to 170. goal is 165 hunting weight, so I am getting there.

I did a short 1.5 mile hike with some hills this morning. I loaded my pack with a sack of grain and strapped it on, total pack weight, 59 lbs. Good to get the hips in shape and tighten up things there, so a heavier pack will not injure me later. Shot the bow at 70 to 100 yards today, working on steady pin and form at long range.

Packed in the tent, pad and bag along with water etc to the spot. It's not all that far, maybe 1.5 miles but it's almost all vertical of the bad kind. Felt great! Trekking poles are definitely the way to go, especially on steep heavy descents

Saturday rode the elliptical for 30 mins at 20 % incline.

Also did my weigh in saturday morning. Was 276. Dropped 5.4 pounds making up for the gain last week. Took sunday off so i could get some time with the family and finish a few small projects around the house before my first day back to work

I have been doing thrusters and zerker squats in addition to my back squats. Thrusters are brutal and the zerkers feel great (other than the pain of the bar resting on your arms). Anxious to load up a pack this fall and see the results first hand.

To me a zerker squat looks like a crappy front squat that would be much easier to cheat or hurt yourself. Am I missing something? If you loaded to heavy it would be easy to lift with your arms and back instead of pressing with your legs.

I need to get back to dumbbell cleans. I felt like I got the heart rate up and a good muscle workout. I'd love to get some bumper plates and do some barbell cleans. Anyone else do any Olympic lifts?

Zerchers allow you to fully extend your hips and work your core out tremendously. IMO, the proper technique is much easier to learn and preform. They also simulate a dead lift but focuses on the core. They are also recommended for those with sore backs as all the weight is on your hips/quads.
