    Merriams and Rio’s

This one had really white tips... truly a mixed bag here in Nebraska.

    Merriams and Rio’s

We have a bunch of hybrids here in Nebraska. It's not uncommon to see everything from dark fan tips to pure white ones in the same flock. Not sure if you can really label them as a particular species here.

    Ammunition shortage

Things are improving even though we aren't seeing shelves full. Hornady added an entire new shift. I know other manufacturers are doing the same. Ammo is being produced and people will only stockpile so much. My guess is we start to see more ammo on shelves by mid to late summer.

    WGFD Proposed Changes

From my memories, I believe there were drastically lower numbers of hunters. I bought over the counter doe tags from the 1980s up until about 10 years ago. Opening day was about the only day you saw other hunters back then. I believe animal populations have fluctuated up and down with...

    2020 Antelope Success Thread

Archery antelope are actually pretty easy in some areas if you sit a water hole.

    Bear Gun?

During archery, I carry a .40 with hard cast bullets. During rifle, I carry the same gun but loaded with self defense ammo. I do not regularly hunt in grizzly areas and as others have said, I'm more concerned with people defense than anything with 4 legs.

    Thoughts on Suppressors for Hunting?

I like the function of them but don't care for the added weight or length. I know some 4" length, lightweight ones are in R&D. If they work, I'll be getting my stamp.

    Youth Double

He is very into the whole process. After he finished de-boning the birds, him and I worked together to do all the grinding and packaging as well. He even grilled burgers for my wife and I that night. Being able to help provide for the family is something he takes a lot of pride in. He just...

    Muley or cross with whitetail?

Crosses are possible and really hard to tell without testing. This deer looks like a mule deer to me but I can see why you posted. Fun to consider- thanks for posting.

    Just a bull snake

Bull snakes are great to have around your house. They do zero harm and prey on a lot of different pests that can do your property harm.

    Youth Double

16 pounds of burger in the freezer after using enough for 3 huge burgers for supper. For those that haven't done wild turkey bacon burger, you are missing out. It is amazing table fare. I'm hoping we can shoot a few more this spring to add to the supply.

When did you kill your first deer?

1x2 mule deer in 1989 in Wyoming. I was 14 and hunting with one of my dad's friends. That was the only buck any of us saw in 3 days of hunting. I was pretty proud at the time.

    Youth Double

Had a fun, but really short, hunt Saturday with my son. We set up 100 yards away from the roost tree about 45 minutes before legal shooting time. It was raining and breezy so nothing was calling yet. 10 minutes before legal time the rain stopped and they started gobbling from the trees right...

    Wyoming Elk Herd Map

I don't believe Wyoming offers a map for the public like you are requesting. I have seen regional maps showing populations but nothing that specifically shows where those herd exist in the regions. I think the closest you will find are the hunting forecasts published yearly by region.

    Being optiMoostic

I personally think moose are easy to approach compared to elk and deer. Nice thing about Wyoming is you can try with the bow and then come back during rifle if needed. Your archery elk setup should be fine on a moose. I would recommend hunting early season at high elevations. That first week...

    Name That Puppy!

Interesting option - https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-2000-05-24-0005240018-story.html On a serious note- I like short names for hunting dogs. Much easier when in the field imo. Beau, Sam, and my current lab, Gus, are my favorites.
