I was at a Casey Donahew concert last night in Deadwood, SD. Over 4k people shoulder to shoulder with no masks. It felt great. Not sure I would have felt comfortable doing this prior to having Covid. Guess it will be a good test of my wife's vaccine.

What 7 points in the special bought last year has no relevance unfortunately. Major tag reductions are going to really change the numbers this year. A lot of people are going to be surprised when they are unsuccessful in the draw.

Points required went up across the board as expected. The crazy part is how many points it took to draw even a cow. Several guys dumping some high points to get out of the game. One person used 20 points on a cow... another 18.

I have not hunted the area so take what I say with that in mind. I did a quick google earth scout of the property and minimal online reading. I don't think this ranch will have many, if any, resident moose. This ranch appears to be fairly low elevation which would be more typical winter range...

Of course there will be exceptions but the fact is a good portion of residents will typically apply for the hunts closer to home- spending considerably less. There are studies and data to back this up if you care to research. Yes, there are guided hunts in general areas... but not near as many...

The numbers stay the same but the allocations per area would be very different. More of those tags would be general tags. You know guys are less likely to pay for guided hunts on general tags so there would be fewer guides hired yearly for elk. As to other species, there would be reductions...

One positive to the vaccine-. I am on day 9 of having Covid. I was not vaccinated. My wife however was vaccinated and as a result wasn't required to quarantine. Nice to not have to shut down the whole household. For what it's worth, Covid did suck but I feel almost normal now.
