Wild - Grizzly Kills a Bull Elk

Like they say.....In nature, nothing dies of old age.

    Sun shades

I have one too for my Leupolds. The downside for me is that they really collect and concentrate dust on the lens, they act like a funnel.

New Fire in Wyoming. Deer area 78 and elk area 110.

It was up to 10,000 acres when I checked early this evening.

    Antelope Unit 80

I scouted mostly 81, which has the same number of tag....10. The reason there are so few tags is that there are not very many goats there. I opted for 81 after I scouted several years. Most will be around the the farm land. I actually found that most of the animals were up really high in 81. I...

    Antelope Unit 80

I have scouted 80 & 81. I drew an 81 tag in 2016 with 15 points. Shot a nice buck. I think 81 is a better unit, but it takes a lot of points. In 2016 there was only 25 tags and I never saw another hunter. How many points do you have?

    Elk Hunting Tricks

As I have said before on this forum, I am primarily a deer hunter, specifically mule deer. I have said (and completely believe) that to really be successful (like you are hunting elk), you need to be very familiar with the area you are hunting. I hunted the same area in the High Sierras in...

    For the Big Bore Guys

A lot of cowboy action shooters use 45-70 for their long range shooting in matches. I used to shoot one, but black powder. 3031 powder is very popular. Your results look great.

Getting things ready for your seasons.

After using ballistic turrets for quite a few years on all of my hunting rifles, one of the downsides is imo the need for 2 people to efficiently use the system in a timely manner. One person using the range finder and the shooter doing the adjustments. If the shooter has to use the rangefinder...

Getting things ready for your seasons.

My son just left yesterday after a month at home. He owns his own trucking business and was in a huge accident in Tennessee (over 40 vehicles involved) and his truck is finally repaired. I can get back to some things I need to do to get ready for my trip to Wyoming with Hilltop and NE69. Going...

Coyote Prey - What is it?

I agree with Jim, too small to be a fawn. Trying to figure what the black & white stripe is....only thing I can think of that has stripes like that is a Badger. Maybe a young Badger? Could be a domestic dog or cat.

    Bullet choices?

H4831 sc is an awsome powder. My 25-06 loves it. Tried a lot of newer powers and nothing performs like the sc. One would think that H4831 would work as well as the sc, but it doesn't. sc means short cut and I guess the smaller grain size changes the burn rate enough that it a lot different than...

    Global Warming!

actaully they are floats shaped like alligator heads that are attached to my aerator blocks that my windmill pumps air into the pond, especially during the winter when it gets iced over. Just a little fun!

    Bullet choices?

Just a side note.....I've been eating game shot with lead bullets all my 78 years and have suffered no ill effects....that I know ofo_O. The only reason they started to ban lead (other than waterfowl) ammo is trying to save the Condors.!

    Beef Brisket - smoking/grilling

I have one left that I am saving for next month's deer hunting trip to Wyoming. I am going to get it smoked and finished just before I leave. Wrap it in foil and vacume seal it so I can reheat it for one of our dinners. I am going to check our local meat markets and see about any more on sale.

    Bullet choices?

Your right. I do shoot a lot, but with other guns I don't hunt with! I really like to experiment with my .220 AO Swift. I play around with a lot of different powders....looking for that "one holer" load too. This is the best I've been able to do with it, but it's at 100 yds!

    Bullet choices?

I try and get a load that has a velocity of 3000 to 3200 fps. I use a bullet wt that will keep it in that area. I'm like JimP, once I've found a load that my rifle likes and performs out to 400 to 500 yds, I rarely change. My 30-06 load was developed almost 50 years ago and I havn't changed a...
