We put together a hunt for Sandhill cranes in Lubbock. Even with the drought and the lack of birds we had one of our best years since I've been going. Day 1, 7 man limit in 30 min, Day 2 9 man limit in an hour, Day 3 ended a few birds short so we could get on the road. 71 cranes in 3 days...

I only came home with pictures and a broken arrow. Had one rushed 40 yard shot downhill thru deadfall and was unable to thread the needle to get my buck. Only chance in 8 days for me, but I had a great time. Some pictures:

Season is coming up. Units in the 30's are real sloppy, be ready for mud. :( This guy let me get in bow range today. I've eaten bear, deer and elk tags so far this year, he might not be safe opening day. :o
