If we found such a thing as an OTC unit with less people but lots of elk (a good unit) we'd all be going there ... and then there wouldn't be less people anymore. OTC units can be ok for elk but there will be lots of people.

People who shoot 30-06’s know they can hit an animal in the right spot to kill it. Therefore a larger caliber is superfluous and would be just for show.

No, never worried about that. The humidity is very low here in Colorado.

I figured it was a bean bag gun just to scare him away. He was shooting up in the air after the bear left for additional effect.

Another way to save ammo $$$ is to practice with a .22. Much cheaper and you can practice different shooting positions, etc.
