Whoa.. am I reading that correctly? Special elk license will be $690 + 576 = $1,266?
Is there a more expensive elk tag out there? Certainly not a more expensive general tag..

I guess as long as there are nonresidents lined up to apply, they can charge whatever they want and they're not even close to what enough people would pay. They keep the resident voters happy with small increases that over the years have not even kept up with general inflation, talking about keeping it affordable for the working man and keep sticking it to the non-voters as if most of us are not working men ourselves.

It's simple business, but it is like having to pay first class fares to sit in the same coach section as everyone else, or pay last-minute ridiculous prices when you signed up at the same early time as everyone else.

It makes you feel ripped off, but what choice have you got? It's pay up or stay home and there's always someone to take your place.

Be interesting to see how it effects the number of applicants. It will make it tough for some people, unfortunately I don't think demand will drop much at all.

Been hunting Wyoming as a NR since 1980. Since PPs were started for NR, I have never bought a "special" tag, just couldn't justify the extra $$$ and sometimes the odds got worse when you did. Sure can't justify today either!!!

So $387 now for deer and $675 for special deer.

Not much of a change really. For all it costs to do this I really don't think it will impact application numbers at all.

I doubt it will affect applications at all. People don't very really pick a state based on the cost of the tag except for MT deer and elk, though people do care if they have to buy a nonrefundable license first and they do appreciate it if they don't have to pay the cost of the tag upfront. They also care about hunt quality, odds and type of draw more than cost.

When there is overwhelming demand vs supply, when there are only a few providers whose number will never increase, then the main risks for them are being too aggressive in pricing relative to other competitors or having their game populations tank.

I can see this affecting antler-less applications- especially moose. I doubt many will be excited to pay 2k for a cow moose but maybe I'm wrong?

PP's can be up to $150? They lost me when PP's went to $75/$100 iirc, for Moose and Sheep. When I decide we want more Moose in the freezer, to Canada we will go...

This bill had nothing to do with increasing revenue for the GF, supply/demand, etc.

It was 100% political...and why as the Chapter Chair for WYBHA, we opposed it in the final version...I can give a run-down on how this mess happened, don't have to guess, I know exactly what happened the whole way.

Normally, I'm 100% in support of fee increases, in particular fee increases for Residents, or when its been 5+ years since fees increased on both R and NR (which IIRC, the NR and R fees in Wyoming have been the same for 8 years).

Not the case with this one...total joke.

Yes, and deer, elk, pronghorn up to $75 each.
