I did the math years ago and decided I could work up to an Alaskan moose hunt cheaper than I could build up points for a Shiras moose hunt in WY and actually get a tag. I started saving for that back then. I have been building points for other species but will reconsider after those points are spent. There is a limit on how much my hunting budget can swallow. The last 2 years I thought I would draw the elk tags I wanted based on past results and point creep has prevented that. Once I draw I might not build them again.

I agree with this statement.

So can someone summarize for me the tag price increases for Antelope, Elk, and Deer for NR? I got a little lost in that link at the top.

I see the PP next year will be $75 each.

Nothing has actually increased. The lawmakers simply passed a bill allowing increases. No word from WGF as to what any actual increase may be.

Wrong, the fee increases in the bill will go into effect, by law, in 2018. The only question mark is how much the commission will decide to raise point fees, the rest is a done deal.

You do not have to purchase the archery license if you have a type 9 tag, right?

Yes, read the bill...pay attention to section 1 and section 3...the house and senate passed the bill...Mead signed it into law.

Your fees are going up in 2018, no question.

The only item that has any wiggle room is the preference point increase, the bill gives the commission authority to increase them "up to" $75 for deer/elk/pronghorn and "up to" $150 for sheep and moose.

The BS part of this bill is that it didn't increase the over-all GF budget a single penny, even though we're all paying more for our licenses.

From what I read on another forum it took money away from the Game and Fish and this bill was to replace the money that they lost.

Am I reading this right, we're being charged more $ for absolutely nothing?
Correct, the Legislature tied HR288 to the general fund allocation that the GF was receiving (6 million). If HR288 passed, the legislature would remove the general fund allocation, if the bill failed, nothing changed and the WYGF still retained the current 6 million general fund allocation. Further the original bill asked for the legislature to give the GF commission the authority to raise fees up to the CPI...that was stripped from the bill in the house TRW committee hearing.

Senator Hicks introduced an amendment that would have done away with the tiered license fees and implement a single price for all NR tags, and his proposed increases would have resulted in about a 2-2.5 million budget increase to the Department. It failed 3rd reading on the floor by 6 votes.

The watered down bill passed, so license fees went up, the 6 million from the general fund is gone, and we're paying more for a flat GF budget.

Wyoming Backcountry Hunters and Anglers supported the initial bill, along with the bill with the amendment by Senator Hicks.

Once the Hicks amendment was out of the bill, we then opposed the water-downed bill...it made no sense to pass the bill at that point as it didn't increase revenue to the Department, and essentially created a situation where we pay more for, more than likely less, or at best, a flat budget. Would have made more sense to just let the bill fail and keep the 6 million in general funds and keep license fees the same...and that's what BHA tried to do at the end.

Just cant do this stuff alone, and as per usual, everyone was too busy to send an email, make a phone call, etc.

Sad thing is, we only had to swing 6 on the Senate side and the bill with Hick's amendment would have passed.
