What is portaging?

I've been doing really well with my 5x5 workout since buying a power rack. The safety bars are nice to have when I'm lifting alone. It's great having the ability to do squats as well. I'm actually in a cut mode right now. As soon as I started lifting my weight and strength went up. Guess I was just a chubby stronger guy now. I'm down 7lbs since May 26th while continuing to hold my strength. Still at all time highs on all my lifts. Not sure what my maxes are but still able to do 5 sets of 5

Having the weights at home is great, cuts workout time in half. My wife has started working out with me in the evening, put the baby to bed, bring the monitor to the garage and start lifting. Works great.

portaging is caring your boat and gear overland around an obstacle in the water. sometimes super easy, other times hard as hell.

Agreed; I moved into my basement gym a few years ago and at this stage of my life it's great.
I too have a power rack (a versatile bench allows for about every chest/shoulder exercise in addition to squats, curls, ext.), dumbbell rack and a few other oddities in addition to my tread wheel of death.

The only thing I need to add is an actual squat rack and a few more kettlebells.

Did get my run it today. Stayed easy on the yesterday and today and iced and elevated them to help. They were still tight sore on the first mile but felt much better on the second and third mile. Time was slower but was expecting that with the quad soreness

I dont have a whole lot right now but im not getting big in the weights at the moment. I got my recumbent bike in the basement along with a yoga mat, resistance band, 2 10lb weights, and one of those yoga balls i think there called that you can sit on and do exercises with

This is my current setup

Current progress. I shot up to 200 pounds when I started lifting last year. Not sure it it was all muscle, but the stomach has to go.

Mike, Looks a lot like mine setup. I've got a power rack.
Also, I think we have the same dumbbell rack. lol I've also got a nice set of machined dumbbells that I can load up. Most I've pushed with them was 175lb x 3. That was a load! Been about 4yrs ago though.
Just created a nice gym space in the basement when I created my mancave.

Ran today but at the wrong time 5pm it was 88 degrees outside. The first two miles went at normal pace but the last mile fell off as i began overheating and not feeling great muscle wise. So pace was off compared to normal but i did complete my 2.75 mile circuit

What do you do for shoulders, Scott?

I had been doing seating military barbell press but other day I did standing barbell presses and could hardly believe the difference. I'll throw some shrugs or reverse flies into the 5x5 workout

I do just about everything standing, had the fittest guy I know help me out a few years ago. He had me start standing for everything, engages core, raises heart rate and knocks off lbs by "engaging the wheelhouse."

All that said:

KB swings above head
Sing arm kettle bell press
Reverse flys
Front raises
Side raises

Later this week I will upright row and walk 50 yards with the KB over my head on one side, then come back with it over the other side.

FYI I had him evaluate my workouts because I needed to get more done in less time. Learning how to be a good husband meant three hours a day at the gym wasn't going to happen. 4 hours a week doing the high output/energy stuff he showed me and I am happy with the outcome.

Agreed. Compound movements is where it's at for general wellness and hunter fitness. We are not looking to specifics such as a bodybuilder or powerlifter may.
