My taxidermist, Jerry Huffaker, delivered my sheep mount to me a couple days ago, now that all the taxidermy shows are finished. This was Jerry's competition piece this year, and he did VERY well at the shows. Jerry is an amazing artist. I told him I wanted a pedestal mount, but I didn't want a wood cabinet type pedestal. I wanted it to look like the rocks the sheep climbed around on all his life. Jerry took that and came up with the rest. It came out looking far better than I even imagined. He really knocked it out of the park.

Here is a list of Jerry's awards for this mount from the past couple of months:

Oklahoma Taxidermy Association
- State Champion Gamehead
- Peoples' Choice Best of Show

Texas Taxidermy Association
- State Champion Gamehead
- Judges' Choice Best of the Master's Division
- Judges' Choice Best of Show Breakthrough Award

United Taxidermists Association (national show)
- 1st Place Master's Division

National Taxidermy Association Annual Convention
- Judges' Choice Best of Show Breakthrough Award
- North American Grand Champion
- North American Champion
- Taxidermist of the Year
- Chris Barnhardt Memorial Award
- Bill Webb Memorial Award
- Sinclair Clark Memorial Award
- Safari Club International Award

I'm proud for Jerry in getting the recognition he deserves for his work. But whether he won any shows or not, I couldn't be happier with the mount that he did for me. I doubt I will ever top this sheep hunt. It was definitely the hunt of my lifetime. I got to share it with my son, and we have some awesome memories that we'll never forget. This mount is the icing on the cake. Jerry's work really capped it off for me. I will remember those steep, rocky cliffs and the hunt that Zach and I shared every time I look at the mount. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Absolutely stunning!

A little story for everyone to enjoy....My neighbor drew one of Colorado's coveted once in a lifetime Desert Sheep tags several years ago. He got his ram and took it to one of our local taxidermist. He got quoted a price and told him I better check with my wife. She got up in arms and said no way. He got a little pissed off and told the taxi to do a full body mount. He is a single man now and probably better for it too!

:D :D

I really debated about a full body mount. I hated to not have it done, but I really don't have room for one. I sure didn't want to have to add on a trophy room to the house just to have a place to put it. :D But I sure didn't want just a regular shoulder mount either. This was my "best of both worlds" idea. Jerry really did a great job on it. I think I actually like it better than a full body mount anyway.
