Wow thats amazing thanks for letting me know Hilltop I will definitely look into nebraskas regulations and find out more about hunting up there. I went out with my girlfriend saturday and hunted public land all day checking out and hiking into three good locations but only saw about 30 turkeys in total throughout the day all on private lands. Was a great day of seeing new country and lots of wildlife though its always nice to be out there. We know which one to take the boys to next time we go out and hopefully we'll get into them... Good luck to everybody still hunting!

Our birds are just starting to disperse from winter flocks, so hunting is pretty hit and miss. Boys did manage to tag out 2nd and 3rd days of season on evening hunts. Not much gobbling or strutting, but I managed to call one back in after my younger son missed it at 20 yards.IMG_0648.jpgIMG_0639.jpg

Well tomorrow is finally opening day. This spring has been horrible to date for trying to scout by listening in the morning. We have only had less than 5 good gobbling mornings so far. Suppose to be chilly and partly sunny tomorrow. We will see.

Was able to get my SD hills bird today, came in silent by himself from the side while the hens and a Tom were still a ways off talking to us.

Got it done at 7 AM this morning. Had four come strutting in looking for love. Like a bad marriage it went wrong in a hurry for one of them!

My turkey hunting has been very limited due to working straight nights for a 40 day turnaround but that's over now. Took advantage of a few days to hunt around the house with no luck but was able to get away for my long weekend and checked off Kentucky this passed Saturday. Leaving Sunday to hunt Kansas for a couple days then Ohio from there...

After having some idiot shoot a bird off the roost 100 yards away (well before daylight.....Man that pissed me off)

The wife and I relocated a few hundred yards and killed one at 7:00 AM let things calm down for a half hour and started calling again and I killed the other at 8:15 AM.

Admittedly, my wife made a great shot on hers...

Mine went airborne after the first shot at 30 yards and required a second shot at about 40 yards going up through the branches...
Still scratching my head on that one... but at least I got him got on the second shot.

Both are 2 year old birds with about 9" beards and 3/4" spurs. Not the big daddy's i'm used to but these will do since we have had an absolute horrible season up to this point.:)

I got mine yesterday morning. I had watched the Tom and hens go to their roosting area the night before. I snuck within 60 yards of his tree and staked out a lone hen decoy. A few soft calls, he eventually flew down, and I killed him less than 5 minutes after hitting the ground. It's the first time I've had success right off the roost. I was back to the truck at 6 am.IMG_0659.jpg

So seeing as the "Wingmen" mentioned that it was Turkey Tuesday, I figured I'd chime in with some pics of my daughter's first bird that she took this past Friday. Last year she rolled a big tom but it got away. This year she wasn't going to let it happen again. I couldn't be more proud of this kid and everything that she's accomplished this spring. A few weeks back she finished 6th in the state for middle school girls at the State NASP Tournament which qualified her to shoot at the National NASP Tournament next week in Louisville. I have a video of her right after she shot her bird but unfortunately it's too big to upload. Her reaction in the video says it all.IMG_0461.jpgIMG_0466.jpgIMG_0473.jpgIMG_0475.jpgIMG_0481.jpg

My son got it done. I was calling while he end rounded one of our cagey mountain National Forest birds. I messed up this morning and should have shot one. I thought it was rangey so I didnt. Regretting that now. Ugh. Sons below.20180429_170854.jpg20180429_180528.jpg20180429_181740.jpg
