    WY 2023 Hunting Season Proposals

Glad they made significant reductions. That is more than I expected but not as many as I wanted reduced in some areas.

    Dolores County Colorado Hunting Accident

I agree it seems light a fairly light punishment but, if he is a decent human being, the regret of the incident haunting him forever is far worse than anything else they could have given him. I can't imagine what it would be like. I feel bad for all involved and pray everyone can move on.

Should I apply for Antelope in Wyoming or not???

Few reasons to think hard about applying this year imo. Those bucks that survive will have some pretty good feed to develop horns this year. The chain reaction of point creep from those sitting out this year or, from those that don't draw that would have normally would have, will make the...

    Does anyone still hunt turkeys?

Yes- love to hunt them actually. I don't shoot many as I let my son do the shooting. I love to call them in.

Another article on Wyoming's tough winter

Most of us are seeing spring start around the country... meanwhile in Wyoming it may as well be January. Sad it isn't over yet...

Another article on Wyoming's tough winter

I know one who cancelled all deer and antelope and is waiting to decide on elk. I think this winter will put some outfitters out of business.

    Wildfire Thoughts

Really depends on the fire. I would trust the biologists personally. One fire I know of from a few years back really changed the entire mountain and some areas still look like the moon. Many deer and elk relocated and the area is still pretty tough hunting if you don't really know the mountain.

Work Trip to Oklahoma - fishing?

I'm going to be near OKC at the end of next week and was hoping to get some fishing in during the evenings after work and possibly Saturday during the day before I head back North. Anyone have advice to offer? I am hoping to get into some early spawn crappie but I'm open to anything un guided...

Western WY Antelope & Deer Dying

Preliminary suggestions are out. I expect additional cuts before the final quotas are set. Bad year to apply for antelope... https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Get-Involved/Public-Meetings

Western WY Antelope & Deer Dying

Here is a map showing current snow depth so guys can get a better feel for the problem areas. The problems on the western half of the state are fairly well documented but that south central herd is having a really tough winter. For that area, I would expect antelope permit decreases in areas...

Western WY Antelope & Deer Dying

Good portion of the state is rough this year- not just the west. I have a buddy who works for the BLM in the south central part of Wyoming. It isn't looking good there either. Will be a tough year or three to hunt antelope or deer... I expect significant tag reductions in many areas. I...

    Decoys

All of the above stated - being a proficient caller is probably more important. Whatever call you use, learn to make the soft sounds, not just yelps. It is the soft sounds that convince them most of the time for me. Occasionally we run into a suicidal gobbler that charges in to yelps but more...

    Decoys

These two toms gave my decoy a real thrashing before my son decided to take them - was pretty fun to watch.

    Decoys

If used properly, they are a huge asset. I have called in around 50 toms to decoys in the last 9 years. My son has been the lucky recipient for most of those. He is 14 and has shot 12 so far. Last year I called in 21 different toms on opening day for my son- he ended up with a triple. I...

WY Region H or unit 78

Not your average fire that produces more food. Many of the typical deer areas still look like the moon. That fire burned HOT. Most of the bucks a guy shoots in 78 spend the spring and summer eating 50-100 miles south in Colorado. There is a reason it takes quite a few less points to draw...
