    Thanksgiving Buck!

Sympathies for your loss; but a positive spin on the experience: your boy to get to hunt out there, and to connect on a buck is way cool, congrats to you both!

    Rut is Here

Its interesting; observing/learning the timing of it all in different places. It was my 1st time hunting on the west slope of the central Bighorns/Basin this yr; but during the 1st week of Nov, the muley bucks seemed noticeably goofy; many were rounding up does; and some had what looked like...

    Reloder-16, Reloder-22, Reloder-26 Q&A

DRUSS, Here is a chart of velocities I posted in another thread, but its worth posting here because of its relevancy to Reloder-16: This is taken with an early 1980s vintage Model 70 featherweight 22" barrel, using Fed 210 primers, Reloder-16, Speer 145 BTSP, CBTO=2.702". We did all this last...

    Rethinking Deer Gun

This next suggestion is going a little bit in the wrong direction for recoil; still stand by the .280 AI idea, but man, this rig will wring out a lot of performance from about the same recoil as your 06; with the right loading and practice, this would give a guy some honest reach...

    Public Nebraska Sandhills Muley 2019

Agreed. We have standing water in many of the ditches here in Iowa right now. The water table is very high.

    Public Nebraska Sandhills Muley 2019

I gotcha-someone else's tent! I was being dense. 😆 Well put-being able to negotiate public land with pressure-is a skill in and of itself.

Don't put all your faith in onx!

Plowed ground here in this thread; but always recommend carrying on your person an official paper copy of the BLM quad for where you're hunting, and knowing how to orient your GPS and compass to said paper map. That being said, property ownership is dynamic and can change anytime. I found a...

    The Lightest Weatherby Rifle Ever

Dang it. Why did you guys have to post this?? 😆 Attention to recoil management in the rifle design is interesting. The nostalgic part of me wants to get a .264 Win Mag featherweight model 70 to give my SIG scope a home; but after watching that, I probably need to keep an open mind! Oh, I...

    Public Nebraska Sandhills Muley 2019

Similar ending my to my WY doe hunt earlier this month, also a similar no regrets experience! Great story, and from reading it, I know you've come from the experience with more knowledge for next time. Am I right seeing an LBO hot tent in your slide show? LBO is on my short list of shelters...

    Rethinking Deer Gun

.280 REM or .280 AI; use a 140 gr pill the rifle likes and that you have confidence in. On 2nd thought, after referring to this: https://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm Scratch the .280 REM, it has ~ the same recoil as the ought-six. .280 AI, 7mm-08, 260 REM worth a look.

    Success in the High Desert

Congrats! Times spent afield like that with your son are priceless; you are blessed.😊

What no hunter wants to see

Public lands are just that-and depending on the specific state-it can get very busy. It is a bummer to see pressure when you try hard to get back in some place. Its hard to know what all is the gig there, but I'd put my $ on a father-son deal. The one dude looks like a teenage kid to me?

    Grizzly Bear Elk Hunting

Awesome. That bull took some killin' didn't he? Wow. Thanks for sharing! Those big bear tracks were surreal. 🐻

    Tag Soup 2019

For it to be 'tag soup', you need to have the unblemished tag in hand, after expending a sincere effort hunting to fill said tag, with no dead animal corresponding to said tag, to show for your efforts therein. 😆

Southern Wyominig - Early Winter Deer Kill

I was quite a ways further north in the Bighorn Basin last week around Hyattville and all the critters I saw (deer, antelope, elk) looked to be in great shape. I'm no expert in ecology, but much of the browse (forbs?) on the winter ranges on the BLM looked to be ample as well. Its still early...
