    .264 Win Mag on Elk

Yeah, I hear ya; however, when I run the numbers in a few ballistics programs, it 'looks' like at and below 140 gr pill weight (s), even with the short bbl, I'd get some extra speed for use on potential long range targets, like antelope over my .280. I know energy isn't everything, but I think...

    California's new Ammunition Law

A lot of people are just plain misinformed about guns. A while back, in another thread, I shared how some unexpected folks are getting into hunting/guns through an indirect channels: the organic food movement, wilderness high adventure trekking; to name a few. I know some of these people don't...

    2 man Hot Tent Options - 2019

I hear ya; from most stuff I've seen about the stoves, guys seem to get an hour or two out of them at most, depending on their setup; and like you say, feeding it sticks. To have the ability to safely create some heat to warm up or dry stuff is a really big deal. If I hunted more often and...

    .264 Win Mag on Elk

Its an old caliber that some would call a dinosaur and something of an a oddball, but it seems, on paper and the merits of others experiences, to be able to do a lot without crazy recoil. I realize I'd gain some recoil pain in that light rifle, but I'd expect it to be similar to my .280...

    2 man Hot Tent Options - 2019

Yeah. To me, a larger stove for longer burn, and a stable stove, to have the option of heating water or (frying up fresh deer heart!) would be an acceptable penalty for increased stove weight.

    .264 Win Mag on Elk

So, I have an opportunity to grab a NIB model 70 featherweight in 264 Win Mag at a fire sale. I know the short barrel will loose some speed-I have the exact same gun in 280 Rem-but I really like the short barrel in the field and I just love these rifles. For deer, sheep, antelope I think it...

    Coot hunting in nm

'BC, Yes, you (we) have/had them in PA, OH, WV. They can salvage a slow day in the marsh as they seem to always be willing to decoy without hesitation and are always around when those greenheads seem to be MIA. There is an issue in preparing them for the table, as has been noted. I shot one...

    2 man Hot Tent Options - 2019

'BC, Two other portable woodstove options I'm aware of are one from an outfit in Utah, Titanium goat maybe? And another was based in Canada. The Canadian stove was tubular in design. I think both can be found in google searches. FWIW, in my research, it was inconclusive on the stove, as...

    2 man Hot Tent Options - 2019

Whats the scoop on the best 2 man options in a portable hot tent currently on the market for the DIY hunter? I've been saving up for Cimmarron hot tent combo for a few yrs and am nearly ready to part with my stash (though for some reason I am suddenly wanting a new longer range rifle lol)...

New Trail Cam law goes into effect Aug 1

Interesting stuff. I'll have to see what the laws are here in Iowa; but in all honesty, we have so little public land, and the trophy big game hunting is predominantly stand hunting for whitetails-much of which occurs on private lands-that comparisons to this situation in Nevada might not be...

    Magnums-best recoil compromise?

Yep; I'm also intrigued by the shorties as well. Bullets in the .277 to .308 range seem to be a sweet spot for getting the most bang for ballistic buck; there are some short mags lobbing those rounds worth a look. 👍
