    WYOMING UNIT 75

What line of work brings you to WY smack dab in the middle of big game hunting season? That's a sweet gig, esp with time built-in to hunt; I'm jealous! 😆

    Seeking Wild Rabbit Recipes

Some good ideas, guys! I've done the cream soup base with pheasant and enjoyed it. I never knock the cream of mushroom or whatever soup trick with wild game stews. They make a great base for a flavorful sauce. Campbells (or Heinz, they make a lot of the generic label condensed soups) have...

    WY Antelope Unit Info

Other thing to consider is this winter. Sometimes, the winter kill can be an issue. You have lots of time til the application is due; my guess is they will have some reports out on the situation as we get towards April/May that would be worth a look before finalizing on a unit.

Decline in moose preference point purchases?

I know this thread deals with moose, but I've seen the odds generally worsen across the board since I started this 'hobby' 6 yrs ago. There is this line of reasoning that we'll have some yrs here soon where max point holders cash their horde of points out, bringing some sensibility into the...

    Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! My hopes for 2020 are for folks to to get to know their neighbors better; and as a society, a rejection of the smart device-media crack that's turning a generation into followers instead of leaders in their communities.

    Seeking Wild Rabbit Recipes

After several trips afield with no luck connecting on pheasants (worst I've ever seen in 17 yrs of hunting Iowa), but kicking up ample cottontails on my long walks, I think its time to shift gears, and take some bunnies as cold weather sets in! 🐇 I have an Italian inspired 'hunter's rabbit'...

    The Wild Game Eats Thread...

Surprisingly, as a guy that loves to eat, and likes wild game, I don't care much for gator-its just OK to my taste. About the only cold blooded land/swamp critter I really enjoy is snapping turtle. 🐢

What did you get for Christmas guys?!

No new toys here, I must have been naughty I guess? 😆 I did 'treat' myself to an IA resident hunting license: to legally hunt small game thru Jan 10th. I hadn't hunted locally here in over 3 yrs. So far, I've been out 3x chasing ditch parrots and only managed to kick up 2 hens. Its not even...

    Merry Christmas!

Almost 60° here in east central IA; a little different this yr in more ways than one, as me and 2 of my boys were unable to journey to PA w/ the rest of family, due to some health insurance drama/work schedule issues (sounds worse than it actually is). My 14 yr old son, who has been in...

Something more to ponder during application periods

I think with the increased demand for these tags-and I believe that the demand for western big game tags is high right now-driven by more mobile non resident hunters, TV shows, social media; the states with these resources have realized they have a product they can market. They need to have...

Anyone ever done a "safari-style" hunt in Wyoming?

It is doable; lots of good perspectives have been shared to consider. For me-and I doubt I'm alone in that regard-with my hectic schedule, 7 days is about all I can budget in a hunt for the forseeable future. Subtract a day on either side for travel, and its down to 5 days afield. If its a...

How Young Is Too Young (To Hunt)

As a dad of several mentally challenged kids, one who made some major mistakes in their upbringing early on (miscues on their developmental delays, pushing too hard, etc.), I'll share what I've painfully learned (and am still learning!) over 20+ yrs, raising 7 kids, aged currently 2 thru 21...

    A good book

" The Tiger: A True Story of Vengeance and Survival ", by John Vaillant. I read this some years ago. It struck me as a latter day, nonfiction Jack London deal. Its about a man eating tiger in Siberia and what all happened, in the 1990s.
