Well it finally happened......I destroyed a gun.

I was working with RL 22 and 4350. I am going to pull the remaining bullets and weigh the powder in each one. The one that did the damage chronographed at 3060. That is really not too hot at all for a 300 Wby. My 180 gr loads are 3250.

Well it finally happened......I destroyed a gun.

When I am working on a new load, I always follow the same steps. I start out midrange from the tables in one of my reloading manuals. I load 3 rounds each progressing in 1/2 grain increments to max suggested load. When I start shooting, I start out with the lightest load and progress up to the...

Well it finally happened......I destroyed a gun.

In about 65 years of shooting, reloading and building guns of all types, I finally destroyed one! I have a custom .300 Wby that I blew up at the range this morning testing loads. The rifle is a commercial Mauser action, Shilen SS match barrel with a B & C stock. I had it built about 20 years...

Have you ever driven on a road covered axle grease? Well that's what most Wyoming non paved roads get like when they get wet. It's hard to describe any better what you will experience. It actually will get a little better when they freeze and you have to use chains. Some are better than others...

    Wyoming Deer Super Tag!!

More on Unit 90. I have hunted 90 (it's antelope unit 74) for antelope since 1980. I hunted it for 15 years before I really found any deer. I have only drawn a deer tag 3 times and killed bucks twice. Difficult unit for deer unless you know someone who knows it or you spend a ton of time looking...

    Wyoming Deer Super Tag!!

I have hunted 90, some nice bucks. Not a lot of deer and you will need to really scout the unit to find them.

Didn't say who I took it out on! Being able to be a varsity team member, opened up lots of opportunities for payback in practices to a couple of guys who were real jerks!

    College Visit

I went to school so long ago that there were very few foreign students there. I did my Masters in the 80's and yes there was a ton of them then.

Shriners are a great organization, I know as I have been one for over 30 years! I donate monthly to Shriner's Children's Hospitals who do great work. I also remember when I started college, the classes I chose were the wrong ones for sure. I struggled my first year just staying eligible. Took...

    College Visit

I remember when I started visiting colleges ( it was in 1959). I had football scholarship offers from quite a few schools. Way different back then, Freshman had to play Freshman sports per NCAA rules. I picked my school and signed the paperwork and then had to go thru hell during the fall from...

    Interesting bullet

I load .38's for my Bulls Eye pistol. I use 148gr hollow base wad cutters. Once in awhile I'll seat one backwards. I just shoot it in practice.

Good choice. If you sight your rifle 1" to 2" high at 100 yds, it will shoot an animal at 300 yds without adjusting your aiming point.

There are several that are close as Jim mentioned. When I started shooting 25-06 there were no factory loads for it as it was a wildcat caliber

I agree on Jim for the caliber....25-06. I have been shooting it since is was a wildcat back in the 50"s , called .25 Neider back then. I have a Ruger M77 (1970's vintage, tang safety) topped with a Leupold VXlll 4x14 with ballistic turrets to match my loads. I shoot 117 Sierra boat tails. I...
