    At 56 it is tough

Eat a lot of fat for fuel. I wouldn't worry about it if you eat more carbs than normal too. It's just a few days on your hunt. It won't ruin your life. But fat is more calorie dense than carbs. Fat bombs, olive oil, macadamia and/or pili nuts or nut butter, regular ol' butter.... Whatever...

    At 56 it is tough

Good work. I just turned 56 last week myself. What type of nutrition/eating plan are you doing? I started a keto diet 3 years ago. For the last year and a half or so, I've been less strict but still very low carb, high fat with good amount of protein - all natural foods, nothing processed...

    What pistol?

Fo sho! If I was hunting in grizz or brown bear country, I'd buy another .454.

    What pistol?

I'm not too worried about either. I've never had a problem with bears or lions. I did have a bear popping his/her jaws at me in the oakbrusk in the dark at 10 yards one time. I backed out and went around. :D Blowing cow/calf sounds in cat country is probably the main reason I'd think about...

    What pistol?

What pistol do you carry in black bear/mountain lion country? And what holster do you like while backpacking?

License Distribution Public Involvement – Process Update Proposal

There are no easy or perfect solutions, for sure. Trying to find the best compromise is tough. Maybe 80/20 split? Maybe all draw on public land in all units? Maybe keep OTC for private land in some units? Maybe OTC doe/cow permits for private land in some units? Point creep sucks, and it's...

When do you stop?? I'm always excited about the next hunt/season.

    Fuel prices affect

I filled up for less than $4/gal yesterday - and we don't even have different, less insane politicians yet. It's down to $3.93 at the station near my house. Oil is down another $3/bbl this morning. I'd love to see oil stay in the $60-80 range. Oil industry makes good money at that level, and...

Investments - what has served you well?

You don't get to buy low when the news all sounds wonderful. When the news sounds good, prices are high. You only get to buy low when it sounds like the world is coming to an end and things will never get better. Then, it gets better eventually. Everything (markets, the economy, politics...

Investments - what has served you well?

Find out if the ESOP allows you to sell the company stock and reinvest the proceeds into other investments within the retirement plan. If it doesn't, you could end up with too much money in one stock. If things ever go bad for the company, that could be a significant hit. If you can get a...

Knees Over Toes workout this morning. 10 minutes of dragging a weighted sled backwards, tibialis raises, calf raises, ass to grass lunges.... Lots of stuff that doesn't get worked much in other routines. Doesn't seem like much, but it's work.

    Fuel prices affect

The article doesn't talk about the reliability problems associated with wind and solar, which are big and real. It does say that it would take a few years to fix the bottleneck issues in oil/gas, and that is 100% true. It's been true for 30 years while politicians have continued to use the EPA...

    Colorado Monsoons

I hope they continue in the mountains and spread east into Texas soon. 2011 was a terrible drought for us. This year so far, we've had more than twice as many 100 degree+ days and even less rain than we had at this point in 2011. It's bad.

We did MtnTough's HP20 Week 3 Day 4 today. Day 4 is the hardest of their workouts, and each week (4 total) gets harder. Day 4 is pack in pack out day. It's a lot of variations of lunges and step ups with increasing weight in the pack. Fun times. We're not doing HP20 5 days/week as designed...

    Fuel prices affect

Gas may never be below $2 again, but it'll be under $4 if we get a crop of even marginally sane politicians in place. I just got home from working out, and I noticed it is down to $4.29 here this morning. Oil is down some from the recent peak. It may go back up again next week. Who knows?

    Fuel prices affect

The last time oil was over $100 several years ago, all the other input costs that go into refining were a lot less than they are today. There's more to the cost of gas and diesel than just the price of oil. I'm not trying to defend or make excuses for the oil companies or anyone else. Just...

    Who else is...

Man, me too. I'm 55 now, so I'm much better at it - finally. 6-8 years ago I was working out with a world class trainer (a guy named Bennie Wylie) and a bunch of 20-30 year olds every day. My competitive juices were flowing. I was outworking most of them, but I was getting injuries and aches...

    Who else is...

Wednesdays are shoulders and arms day for us. Just hitting the little stuff we don't target during the rest of the week. Knocked that out this morning. Every other day is some version of mostly legs, but also push and pull (full body). I didn't know how it would go doing legs almost every...

Nice! I'm jealous of those temps. It was almost double that at 6am this morning when I was working out. I wish we'd get a north wind and some rain, but it'll probably be at least 3 months before that happens. :(
