I shot a Sharps in 45-70 with black powder in 1000 yard matches. In my experience, recoil is totally related to bullet weight, the heavier the bullet, then heavier the recoil.
This post was started almost 3 years ago. I read all the posts again and they were really interesting and the ones I posted are still true today.
BUT the big change here in sw Colorado is the price of property. I bought my property ( 6.3 acres) in 1994 for $50,000 including 5 shares of...
I love old knives. They are mostly high carbon steel and take and hold an edge really well. They do rust tho. I have a couple too as my uncle was a butcher too.
Getting my boat ready for the season this year. I bought a new side scanning fish finder and a new tachometer this winter and need to start installing them. The launch ramp at our local lake (McPhee Res, 2nd largest in Colo) opens tomorrow. I am also going to install 2 downriggers.
The only...
I used to use pork shoulder roast for fat and added meat. A buddy in Alaska told me about the bacon ends & pieces. We have a local smaller grocery store and the butcher ordered my a case of ends & pieces. 30# in 2# frozen packages. I paid $90.00 or $3.00/pound. You are right about the different...
Buck deer, 3rd season (second choice is a doe in the same unit) and if I draw either one, I'll get an otc bull tag for the same unit. Also put in for antelope. Everything in Colorado. Will buy deer & antelope points in Wyoming when the window opens.
I like at least 2 or 3 different blades for butchering. I have a big chefs knife that I use for cutting steaks and I use a smaller filet style to debone. The picture with this post has the knife I like for steaking and cutting up large chunks of meat. The picture was where I was cutting up...
I shoot deer with a Ruger M77, Leupold VXIII 4x14, in 25-06. I have shot it since 1970 when I bought it new, and have taken over 100 deer and probably 75 antelope with it. I have never hunted sheep, but wouldn't hesitate using it for them. I only shoot my own handloads with 117 gr Sierra BT...
Assuming you will be using it for elk and larger animals, .30 cal is great. I use a .300 Wby for elk & larger, 25-06 for everything smaller. I have taken probably 100 + deer and 75 or so antelope with the 25, I love it. My Weatherby is really great too.
