the Old man is wanting to throw in the towel on hunting...?

I don't know if you guys hunt out of a tent but perhaps a trailer or RV with all the comforts would be some motivation. My dad hunted well into his 70's after my brother and I got a trailer. The last few years he went with us he didn't really care if he got a deer he just liked to go and keep...

    Title fight

What do you guys think about the upcoming Mayweather / Pacquio fight. I think it's about 5 years too late. Pacquio has been trying to get this fight done for years but Mayweather has finally run out of excuses, now that Pacquio is past his prime is the only reason Mayweather has agreed to it...

    Bugles in January?

I just got bag from a cow elk hunt and this is the latest I have ever been elk hunting. We found a herd of about 80-100 elk mixed of cow, small bulls and 2 or 3 big bulls. They were having quite a bulgling contest and was curious if it is common for them to be bugling in January.

    Elk shanks

I read an article somewhere about how people waste the shanks of our game animals into the burger meat. It said that cooked properly they were delicious. I know how much my wife and I like beef shanks slow cooked. So my question is whether any of you guys cook them like slow braised beef shanks...

    Late season cow elk

Just got back from my late season cow elk hunt. I was able to take a cow with the help of my son and my brother. Without their help it would not have been possible to pack out the cow. We found a good herd about two miles inside the Parsnip peak wilderness area. It was like a jungle walking in...

    Good eating antelope

I have heard some people say that antelope are inedible which I think is a bunch of bull. I have been lucky enough to draw 3 antelope tags in NV since 1989. I've never had a bad one. My wife and I think they are the best eating. My last one had been feeding in an alfalfa field and that was the...

My brother-in-law who KNOWS EVERYTHING dry fired my bow and the bowstring came off the wheel. I'm thinking if I draw back the bow and attach a small ratcheting strap while bow is drawn too keep limbs down I will be able to put string back on wheel. What do you guys think?

    Photo tricks

Just wanted to share something that bugs the heck out of me. It's the people that bag a nice buck and then pose the deer and go sit about 5 or 6 feet behind it for the picture. They try to make an already nice buck look bigger than it really is. You are not fooling anyone. Just hold it by the...

    Turkey day

Here is a pic of the turkey we raised this year. Forgot to take pic before wrapping and putting in fridge. I put beer can next to it for prospective. Live weight was 49lbs. Dressed weight is 41lbs. This is the biggest one to date.

    Montana Public Land Bull

Going where other hunters can not or will not go works for me. When people can't drive a truck or ATV into an area it eliminates probably about 90% of the competion. The area we hunt is very steep and high, we rarely if ever see another hunter. Sometimes we see someone drive to the mouth of a...

    40 cal shotshell

I was wondering if anybody has any experience with using birdshot in a pistol. This year we had a bunch of ruffed grouse within 5 feet of us while draging my deer down the mountain. You guys think this would kill one of these grouse?

    Ruby mountain buck

I finally got to shoot a buck. It's been several years since I got a buck because I have been archery hunting the last few years. This year I drew a rifle tag. It was nice and cold and snowy but someone forgot to tell the bucks they were supposed to come down off the mountain tops. I also got to...

    Too much technology?

I just watched a hunting show where guy was hunting mule deer in TX with a guide. On a private ranch of course, they find a deer, guide uses range finder, 250 yards, hunter then proceeds to shoot right over deer. 250 yards! If you need a range finder to shoot 250 yards you you need to go...

    Accurate enough?

Just wondering what you think. I can hit a gallon milk jug every time out to 400 yards, yet a friend of mine thinks that since it is not center punched it's not good enough. I figure that is about the size of a deer's vital area so what difference would it make? Elk have an even bigger vital...

    Weather update?

Anybody got any info on how the weather has been in the Ruby's. Has there been any snow up on top. I will be headed up there for the last week of late rifle deer season. Thanks for any help.
