Texan bow hunter killed by Pennsylvanian muzzle loader

I truly sympathize with the family suffering from the loss of a loved one. It's a terrible thing that happened. That said, cpw is not to blame. Many states have accident free firearm seasons with no orange requirement. This tragedy happened because a hunter made an extremely bad decision to...

    Teddy Roosevelt

I really applaud many of the things he accomplished. Without him, hunting may not be the same today. However I struggle to read some of the accounts from his hunts. It was common to shoot something and just take the antlers leaving the meat to spoil. https://www.bartleby.com/52/9.html

Had years like that. Struggle to get bulls in range all archery season and then shoot one with a rifle at archery distance. Congrats for getting it done and filling the freezer!

    WY Grizzly Attack Injures Hunter

What was the ranger shooting him with? Not much recoil- looked and sounded weird. And the gun didn't make sound on his second shot? You can see what appears to be gas exiting the barrel but no report? Weird.

How many rounds of ammo to take?

Your exact comment, " If I'm serious about a trip (elk)..." just implied that you didn't get serious with the others. My apologies. Growing up out west I did see quite a few guys basically use antelope as a practice session for other species to follow. It always bothered me.

How many rounds of ammo to take?

So a mule deer or antelope doesn't deserve being serious and verifying zero, only elk?

20 Bull kills in 20 min.

Some amazing footage! Not sure I would have taken a few of those shots but they seemed to all work out for the hunters.

How many rounds of ammo to take?

Things can happen on a hunt. Lost packs, scope knocked off zero, broken scopes, accidents, etc. I always have 2-3 boxes of ammo along on a hunt with one box being in the glove box or tool box away from the other ammo. One box doesn't leave much room for error. That said, I rarely have used...

    Sighting in your rifle

It's actually a great question. My buddies and I just discussed this recently and we have been shooting for a long time. It really is personal preference. I sight in prone with front and rear supports so the rifle is extremely steady and then use the highest magnification on the scope so I...

    Wyoming ORV/SXS/ATV use map info

The roads are marked pretty clearly once you are out there. Hunting one near Laramie this past weekend I was surprised at how many of the good roads were just plain closed. A vertical sign next to each road either had an arrow meaning it was ok to travel or a closed sign. It was actually a...

    Late Fawn Drop

Small fall fawns are a result of either late breeding during the 2nd or third estrous cycle or doe fawn being bred on their first cycle. https://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/deer-scouting/deer-behavior/whitetail-fawns-rule-second-rut The later is more common with whitetails but does happen...

    2021 Hunting Success Thread

Had a fun hunt this past weekend with the family. My son harvested his first antelope and I filled my tag on a decent buck. It was tough hunting with the numbers being down. I sure hope they limit or eliminate the doe tags near Laramie for the next few years. We saw more bucks than fawns.

Something to look at - whitetails

The variance in deer body size down there is crazy. I shot what I believe was a 2 year old 4x4 between Beaumont and Houston about 20 years ago. The body was so small I was surprised. I knew the deer wouldn't be as big as northern bucks but it was shocking. I literally picked him up by...
