Hey ithunter,
I had a great hunt in 71 in 2010, was out there in 2012 and didn't see nearly as many animals. I was not hunting 71 that time but hunting 72. Numbers were way down in unit 72 also 69 and 70 were down as well. There were still enough pronghorns to fill your tags but we chose to eat some doe tags due to the low numbers. Hopefully they bounce back soon. The GPS chip will be your best friend in unit 71 but there are some great bucks there if you get back off the roads.

Alright, a quick wrap up on unit 71. This is a tough unit for a public land DIY hunt. That being said we did meet a couple of ranchers and we never saw another Antelope hunter while we were there. In years past there were 400+ tags for this unit and this year there were 100 buck tags and 50 doe/fawn. We saw a fair number of animals everyday and focused all of our efforts on public ground. The BLM Maps and the Hunt Chips were worth their weight in gold once again on this trip.

I had the good fortune to take the buck below...he was the second largest buck we saw.

Thanks guys, two of us tagged out the same day and one tagged out the day before. We did manage a group picture before we put the zip ties on the tags and put everything in the cooler.

Now it is time to research cow elk tags for next year as an icebreaker to bull tags in the future.

So, I went to drop of a deer pelt to get tanned at the taxidermist and found out my 'lope was done...actually had been done for a few weeks...they just didnt want me to pick it up because well it looks so good, and it's helping them sell the pedestal mounts.

I should add that my goat is on the right while my buddy's and his wife's goat is on the left.
