Glad they made significant reductions. That is more than I expected but not as many as I wanted reduced in some areas.
The problem on our ends is not seeing all the raw data they have from helicopter surveys and from testing for fast content etc. Gaurantee that is discussed at length at the approval meeting.

The other big one is that a lot of doe/fawn tags end up not being filled, especially when the private land stipulation is there. Farmers and ranchers still don’t want them on their landand Want tag numbers high.

We are going for it! All in with my buddy that has 17 points and I have 4. Fingers crossed and lots of time off to dedicate to 2 good goats. Of corse he gets first pick since he’s bringing me into the chance of drawing the tag.

Looking through the elk numbers, I can't help but think all those increases are an attempt to make up some of the budget losses they will see with reduced antelope. Some elk areas, in the hard hit regions, seeing increases is hard to understand. Some very curious deer numbers as well... I think all applicants need to really do their homework before applying.

Elk are doing fine or are above objectives in some areas. They don't need to raise revenue, they have reserves.
Deer are not suffering all over either, some LOs have issues with deer in their meadows etc, hence the doe tags and any deer tags in those areas.

I agree on doing your homework.

If they don’t need to raise revenue then why are they jacking the prices of the NR licenses up?

Sure elk are doing just fine but why raise quotas, after an extreme winter, in some of the hardest hit areas? Their budget may be doing fine but I guarantee they don't want to see it shrink. I would also second Mallard's question - If the budget is doing so good why the drastic increases in Non-resident tag prices?

The landowners complaining about deer in their meadows are 90+% referring to whitetails.

Elk are over objective, they need to kill more, they want more opportunity, they raise quotas. Pretty simple.
As for the budget nonsense, obviously none of you watched a task force or a legislative meeting. If you had you'd know why Hicks and the Legislature raised the special fees. In addition, the dept is sitting on almost 50 million in reserves.

You and I both know that just raising quotas to kill more elk doesn't work in most areas. If it did, they would have issued double the tags in areas like 6 and 7 a long time ago. You like to make it sound simple but it isn't.

I did watch much of the task force videos but pardon me if I don't take everything they said as truth.

They raised a lot more than the special fees recently.

I realize you have inside info with the WG&F but I would ask you to take a step back and look at the big picture. Some of it just isn't making sense.

Ya.
Ok.
We all know that they raised the prices to “improve the drawing odds.”

So basically,

“We don’t have enough tags to make everyone happy, so we are going to price people out of the game so only those with money can apply and that helps their odds of them drawing a tag.”

How convenient, they will still sell out of those licenses and capture the revenue.

What a crock of bullshit….and I hope your not defending that.

Hicks and that task force are feeding on the NR working man, and pricing them out of hunting in Wyoming....it’s that simple.
