I agree!

Had my Gamemaster 06 in my hands Saturday when I missed a charging hog at 5-6 feet in the Mountain laurel then shot at his buddy at 12-15 feet. Had to look down the barrel on both as they were running 25 MPH and I was laying on my belly on a hog $hit covered hog trail when it all went down. Quite perplexed that I missed the one at 6' actually....confirming that my 30-06 sucks.

My wife was with me and looked at me and said "How could you have missed?!"

Not one of my finer moments.

I bet you that hogs ears are still ringing.

My Remington 7600 .30-06 because it still wears a hard plastic butt plate. Kicks like a mule. Not keen on the Tasco scope it sports either. Both issues can be fixed.

Mine sucks as well. It's a Remington 700 ADL with no recoil pad. It has caused me to buy a bunch of deer tags over the years, and then I had to pay for gas to go, freezer bags for the meat, etc.......

Modern bullets saved the 30-06. I will never own anything -06, and have been a .270 guy for 4 generations
If you use a .270 then you are a 30.06 guy. If not for the grand old 30.06 there would never have been an O'Connor special. A pile of Deer, Antelope and Elk would have to agree if they were alive, that my 30.06 sucks.

Yea, my old 06 hasn't killed anything in the last 40 or so years.

But then it did its job for a long time before that. It was made in 1935 and has quite possibly killed more animals that most of the members on this forum ever will. I got it from my uncle who gave it to me when I was the grand old age of 5.

But then it hasn't been out on a hunt in all those years. I might have to pull it out of the safe and take it out on a rabbit trip just to check the zero on the old Redfield scope that I have on it.

Mine sucks because it is so damn accurate and comfortable to shoot. I really want to hunt with other guns and calibers but can't bring myself to leave it behind... A buddy invited me to a gun show coming up in two weeks. I declined saying I didn't really need anything else. So depressing.

Yeah, my Winchester Model 70 was made in 1952 and handed down to me by my Dad.
I never thought about it but I guess it does suck ... at least from the perspective of all the animals it's killed over the years ... I'm sure all them dead critters must think it sucks. Heck I even had to buy an extra freezer because of it ... that really sucks.

But now that I'm getting older I could probably qualify as old/weak/and disabled so when they create a special primitive season for the lowly '06 I'll be ready to go!!

Haha you guys are great! I just like causing a little stir. I know plenty of people who shoot -06's and have killed plenty of stuff. I also know those same people who shoot different ammo, but still kill animals. I also know people who shoot a .270 with the same brand ammo as the -06..... and sure enough, animals still find the freezer.

Yep, yep.
When you put a round in the correct spot and you connect with the right vital organs, I don't think the caliber matters that much.
Heck, even a little .270 can kill stuff if you hit 'em just right :)
