My muzzleloader buck from this year. First with the muzzle loader. 167 net 181 gross. A trail cam pic and a shot after I got him down. Warm weather had daylight activity way down, so I snuck in on the bedding area and got him there.

Thanks guys, he is a heck of a buck. I've got some other good ones in the picture album on my profile. I've hunted hard and had more than my share of luck. Let lots of young ones pass so they can reach their potential too especially as I've got a little older and wiser. It's amazing what a difference a year of age can make on antler growth as some of the pics show.

Shot this 9 pointer (4x5 for you western guys) yesterday at 11:50 in the morning. It was my 3rd all day sit in a row and movement was slow during the morning. I was getting ready to eat my lunch on stand and had a bottle of Diet Dr. Pepper in my mouth when I looked to my left and saw him standing there. It's quite thick in the direction he came from and he just popped out. Luckily I was able to sneak my drink down on my seat, reach back for my bow, and get him. He was 20 yards and hard quartering toward me. He was close enough that I knew I could put on in from the top and front. The broadhead ended up in the middle of the heart. After sitting on the same stand for 30 hours in three days I'm very happy with this deer.

It's funny, I got back in the same tree for an evening sit yesterday and saw a real stud of a buck right at dark. Too far for a shot. Here in IL we are allowed two bucks a year so I'm going to be pursuing this other deer hard.

Mcseal2 and Hunt1up those are some nice whitetails. Hunt1up your hunt sounds kinda like mine except I had a dip in, spitting in a water bottle when a doe trotted in. I knew she would have someone following so I went ahead and put the cap on and set my bottle in the seat of my stand. I know..."forget the wind, just hunt". Nothing smells worse than some Copenhagen but my wind is perfect in the stand I hunt, so I can get away with it every now and then. Gotta be in the woods.
Most of the deer this weekend were late morning arrivals. The moon got em screwed up a little right now. This next weekend should be real good. Supposed to be in the mid 20's down here.

Oh I spit Skoal straight on the ground all day. Deer never seem to mind it one bit.

I don't know how you guys can sit in a tree all day. I know it is effective, but holy boring batman.
I break the day into 3 sections and treat them all as their own "prime time". Each can be equally as good. Friday for example, I saw 15 deer pretty much throughout the day. Yesterday I didn't see deer until 9:30, 10:30, and that buck around noon.

Plus an auxiliary phone charger, snacks, lunch, drinks, and chew help pass the time.

It's taken a few years to get my brain right about doing it consistently, but it really works. My best three whitetails all came between 12-2. Mature bucks of 161", 147", and 142", plus a few smaller ones like the one from yesterday.

Afraid to try that one...I feel bad enough spitting in a bottle, but I hear ya, gotta find away to pass the time.
I use to take a book. Killed one of my best Illinois deer while sitting and reading. Now with my phone I read eastman's and text.

I'm not going to lie, if I pull an all day hunt I'm kicked back in an office chair with my feet propped up. To pass the time I will find that one friend who is at work and update them often. I used to do all day sits in my climbing stand and it's pretty comfortable, I just need somewhere to sit my red bull and scared of my camera taking a fall.

Oh I'm very conscious of wind and scent and have seen no ill effects from chew spit on the ground. I hunt a ton and take it very seriously. I bet you wouldn't see a bad result from it.

I'm one pro angry birds player in the tree, that's my time passer. I need to steal the wife's kindle and actually learn something from a book for once.

I had him on camera all summer and wanted to get him with my bow since he's not real big, just a 4x5 2.5 yr old. I was ready to sit all day for a four day weekend and shot him at 8 something opening morning.

This is where I found him. Lung shot with the shotgun, he went around 100 yds. He was going back to the thick stuff. This is a 6 ac woods in the middle of a section. No other woods. About 1/3 of it is thick bedding like this.

Kids want him on the wall so Sunday, I took that deer to the taxi and picked up my 2013 WI rifle buck.
