Been getting back into the weights. Hurt my knee squatting over a year ago and just did a lot of mountain biking over the summer. I started doing a 5x5 program to force myself to keep the weights light for a while. The lighter weights have been good to get me back into it without feeling like I need to push myself too much. Just follow the program and add the weight very gradually. I think the last few years of lifting I've been pushing the weights too heavy too soon trying to get back to what I used to be able to do 10+ years ago.

I'm only lifting 3 times a week and it feels good, but I am squatting on all of those days. So far, so good.

Cut and split a pile of wood for the fireplace last week and it left me feeling pretty sore for a while.
Figured it was time to get back to working out today after taking a month off after my hunt.
Plus my wife will start her Christmas baking marathon very soon and I have designated myself as the quality control inspector. ;)

Currently in “cut” mode from a strength/gain cycle (and too much venison & cheese sampling haha) so I tried a new HIIT routine today....

1 minute burpees
1 minute rest
1 minute full resistance inclined elliptical sprint
1 minute rest....repeat for 20 mins

Yea, worked well.

Just started back at it with more intensity, been only able to make it 1-3 times a week between hunting and doing house renos all fall.

I follow a 5 day program called Nsuns, which is a 5/3/1 kinda routine. I like that it has a fairly high amount of volume, and increases weights based on percentages and the number of reps achieved on the previous week. It really got me through a plateau I had hit with my previous routine. There's also a handy few handy apps that calculate the weights for each rep.

Between that and skiing, I'll do OK for conditioning. As the cold starts to ease off in March I'll get back to running outside. Then come spring I'll start training for whatever my fall plans are. If its mountain hunting, there's some decent topography around here to train on.
