great workout this morning.
drank my coffee at the kitchen table and watched and listened to a herd of about 20 elk. they are very vocal.
20 minutes later had 2 whitetail bucks in the field below me.

not a bad workout.

holy crap I am sore today
may have overdone it (again) last night, think the squats did me in, legs are really sore..... gotta remember this is a marathon and not a sprint......Tonight is looking more like a short walk just to keep my legs moving, and then upper body..

I hear you on the legs, we have been going twice a week on legs and going up in weight and trying to get a good sweat in the process. I sat in the tractor for a few hours today and getting going again was no fun. Took a run this morning, then did weights, we did cleans, and then went to back and did 18 sets of various back workouts, then hit 6 sets on the Abs. It is time to ramp it up, not long before season gets here -

Wednesday night's running group easy run turned into a 4 mile Tempo Run. I was sore to start but that seemed to fade.

I had a pack of runners ahead of me on the path and just visualized them as a herd of elk disappearing around the corners, just out of range. Managed to finish at a faster pace than the first half of the run.

I am about 2/3 the way through 20 cords of maple firewood. I try to hand split, haul, and stack 2-3 truck loads a day. I start a week long canoe trip on Sunday, then back to the wood. When I run out of work to do it is back to P90X.

Saturday we went to the 3D bow shoot in Stanley, Idaho - had a great time - walked a bit -5 miles in the woods. Then came home and ran a couple miles on hills. It turned out to be a good leg day.

Just got back from 10 days of vacation. Kind of a slacker during vacation, just 27.3 miles running last week, but some of those were hilly and on trails. One of my best workout days was a 5.5 mile hilly run followed by 18 holes of golf walking and carrying my clubs that afternoon on a sunny humid day in Kentucky.

12 days until my 50K trail race with 8,000' of elevation gain and loss in Montana.

Well the shin splints are gone, so I have been back at it for almost two weeks now. I decided to just pick up where I should have been if I didn't take any time off. Ran/walk 9 miles today and felt pretty good for the first six which took right at 50 minutes, and then I crashed and lost all my energy, and the last 3 miles took 40 minutes. I need to figure out how to keep my energy up on the long runs.

In taper mode for my 50K race coming up this Saturday. Another fairly light week for me. 32.0 miles total at an average pace of 8:54. Longest run was only 10 miles.

Current forecast for the race day is ugly, sunny and a high of 91! I thought being in mountains in Montana that it would be a little cooler.

Race starts at 7:00 so I'll have a few hours before it gets hot, but I'm thinking it is going to take me close to 8 hours to finish so it will be plenty warm by then. Hopefully there will be plenty of creek crossings where I can cool off.

We had a huge party for my son who is serving a 2 year mission in New Zealand and leaving in 2 days, so I ate way too much food and cheesecake for desert. So I was feeling heavy and guilty this morning and decided to run the hill that really kills me. I made it to the top without stopping and got the heart going to blow out all that cheese cake. Then I shot my bow and after shooting, headed to the gym and we did chest and triceps. I made myself a deal, for every piece of cheesecake I eat, I have to run the hill. Looks like I'll be running that hill each morning because we have a bunch of cheese cake left over.
