2nd week of my taper. Only 34 miles this past week.

Big race is coming up on Saturday, only problem is the forecast is showing 89 degrees and 80%+ humidity for a heat index in the mid 90s!

I have seemed to screwed up my left shoulder somehow. I have not been to the doctors yet but anything that requires that arm in the gym is out of the question right now. I am totally bummed. I had shoulder surgery on my right shoulder a year ago January and just recovered in time for bow season last year. I am hoping I can hold off on anything drastic till after this season but we shall see. Guess its mostly legs and cardio for awhile.

Hang in there Mike. Give it lots of rest and a healthy diet rich in fish oil and see if things improve.

Been running for a couple weeks and hitting the hills for bone as often as possible lately. However, the real good news is that I've finally been discharged from physical therapy for my distal rupture and can begin strengthening! 5lbs per week... I'll be shooting my bow again by next week.

Well, this last weekend I did better than I have done in a long time. Hiking around from about 4500 to 6500ft. Can still tell its gonna take more to be able to close the deal this fall.
I need to kick up the cardio without destroying my knees or shoulders........... idea's ?????

Good to hear.
Slow and steady; don't want a relapse. :)

Shorter run last night but was able to get the pace for the splits on the individual miles well under 10 minutes per. 5 minute walking warm up is what kills the time on the first mile.

Will be heading out shortly to cut another load of firewood. I'm just tapping the dead trees along my road for now. I hand split them if needed before loading in the truck. Just like pounding on big tires with a sledge, only more productive. Will be flying into a remote lake in Manitoba next week for much of the summer, so need all my parts working within design parameters.

this mornings work out. I do these Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am not tech savy enough to post where others can see it.
But basically, bomb the ridge out of my house to the road, peddle to the first hill and boot leather it up and down. Peddle to the second hill and boot leather up and down. Peddle home, put 2 into the gong at 300 yards. 2.5 miles and 1100 vert feet. I have been doing this work out for about 10 years now. It really seems to get me into mountain shape.

Whew!! I had them once and now I pretty much just run on unpaved surfaces. Will be going on a full pack hike this afternoon after work.

My big race is tomorrow. Supposed to be 50 miles, but with all the rain they've been having down there they ended up having to change it up some and it is going to end up being 51 miles instead.

Forecast is still pretty ugly, morning thunderstorms followed by hot and humid with the heat index topping out at 94.

Supposed to be live video coverage of the entire race here - http://www.usl.tv/brazos-bend-50-the-mix/#toggle-id-2

Or you can track individual runners here - http://usltracking.com/

Race starts in the dark at 6 am and I'm hoping to finish sometime around 3 that afternoon.

Going to be an experience for sure.
