After the initial onslaught of looks, giggles, stares, comments and outright rude people.......eliptical in your boots is my Aug go to exercise...then with a pack :)
Anytime I've hiked around with my pack, I'm pretty sure most people think I'm a homeless traveler. We have a lot of them around Cheyenne, and oddly enough most are wearing a pack, so I guess I get it.

I have been struggling with motivation the last couple of weeks, have still been hitting it, just not as hard as last month.

True Story:

1st Incident:
I took a pack hike last week. While I was approaching a house, the woman sitting on the porch grabbed up her belongings and ran into the house! I guess I looked like a vagrant.

2nd Incident:
My neighbors know me so they were not started to see me coming up the road wearing a pack. However, they had company and the woman freaked out and was whispering to my neighbor to not make any sudden moves or look to the right, but their was a bum coming up the road! He had some fun with her and told her it was ok. She was a bit embarrassed but they had a good chuckle. He told me about it later and we had a good laugh as well. :)

I'm thinking in the future, or this Saturday, I need to phone ahead to the police department and give them my exercise route in the event they get a call! :)

I have been busy with doctor appointments. I went to an eye doctor for a check-up and they found that there is something putting pressure on the back of my eyes and it is harming the optic nerve. I still have vision that is excellent, I can read the smallest letters they ask me to and they said it's 20/20 easily. They are doing lots of tests to see what is causing the pressure and then I meet with a specialist thats both a neurologist and optometrist on the 17th who will read the results and see where we go from there. So far it doesn't seem to have affected me but it's not something they want to let go to long. It could be blood pressure related, my regular doctor put me on some meds for that and my family has a history of blood pressure issues.

Anyway, I'm hoping that doesn't derail my hunting plans for this fall. I'm glad I'm not headed to Alaska until next year, this fall it's just Wyoming muleys in an easy draw unit and whitetail around home if anything is effected.

I got some wrist and ankle weights to use while hiking to get in shape and took them the last few trips with the packs. It seems to work my arms a little harder wearing them while using the trekking poles. The ankle ones make me believe that a pound on your feet is like 7 on your back. I heard that on a podcast recently and now believe it. Last week I didn't get much hiking done between doctors appointments and 4 days of shipping yearling steers. 4 days I shipped cattle I spent a lot of hours horseback and on foot working so it wasn't a total loss. This week things are getting more regular, got a good hike in tonight with the heavy pack and will get a couple more this week. I'll focus more on cardio the other days, going to hit that harder this month and clean up my diet more.

9 weeks out (Leave oct 14) and kicking it into high gear.

1 - 2x a week - pack stairs. I live in a flat swamp, but I take a 50 lb pack and sneak into a fancy hotel downtown and can get 34 stories in one lap. Up to 4 laps, 50 lb pack, 1 hr 10 min. I do cheat a little bit and take the elevator down from 23-2. This is mentally and physically very difficult.

1- 2x a week cardio intervals. I have never found anything quite as quickly effective for building your lungs as these. Set the treadmill on 6 degrees, walk 2 min at 3.5, run 2 min at 6 mph. I am doing 8 not really comfortably, but comfortably enough that i'm ready to increase difficulty. Going to start increasing work period by 10 sec and decrease rest period by 10 sec until i can get to 3 min run 1 min walk, all at the 6 degree incline. Usually on those days I do 10 min rope machine and 10 min arm bike after and core work.

I also mix in Orange Theory classes 2-3 x a week. The biggest challenge has been not taking more than a day off.

Has been a challenge in past years to go too hard too early, burnout and slack off too early. I feel like this year I took it easy starting off and am going to be really punishing myself the last 2 months to be in peak condition at the right time.

Good luck everyone, seasons right around the corner!

Good news from the Doc at least for now. Both the eye doctor and my regular doctor think that after all the testing it's blood pressure causing the symptoms and that has come down. I still have to see the specialist but the tests haven't indicated anything more serious.

Walked for 2hrs tonight. My Onx Maps app screwed up and didn't keep my trail active to know the exact distance but it should have been at least 5 miles, maybe up to 6. I treated it like a hunt, wore the clothes and carried the same gear (about 35lbs total) I'd take on the hunt if it was tomorrow. I made it without stops walking through knee to chest high grass in an area we save to calve in. It hasn't been grazed yet this summer and the big grass adds to the challenge kicking through it each step. I felt pretty good doing it and never ran out of energy just got pretty short of breath on the big hills. I am going to start mixing in T25 now that the doctors don't think it will hurt me and get more cardio going. I'm thinking 2 to 3 of the walks with the 70lb pack a week and T25 2 to 2x per week. I'll do the lower focus and cardio videos if I do it twice, lower focus once and cardio twice if I get 3 in.
