After shooting a walking bull and loosing him a few years back in Colorado I will NEVER shoot at a walking elk again unless he is under 10 yards.

~25 yards, 100% broadside, walking and I held slightly forward between green and red and hit 1" low of orange when that bull took 1 step.
Then had help from unforeseen other "hunters" to run the bull to parts unknown. I still have nightmares about the loss of that elk.

You hold red and that bull takes 1 step there is a good chance you will never recover that animal if he is hit with an arrow. Just saying.

If I could do it all over again. One simple "Mew" Zap....he would have been mine.

Being a lifelong bowhunter I know this, and knew this at the time. Not sure why I chose to shoot at him walking but its a decision I made that I regret to this day.

elk fever. poor judgement is number 1 symptom.

don't beat yourself up to bad. most of us has succumbed to it at one time or another.
all you can do is strive to do better next time round.

I’m surprised no one has asked how far the is the shot. I’m not that good at shooting a bow so beyond 20 yards I need it to stop. I would lean towards blue more than red. If I errored I would rather hit shoulder than gut.

Even w the red but also even w blue when he swings that leg forward.

Not liking the angle on the other shots. Blue is a rifle shot imo. I can see the heart but there is no dot there.

distance doesn’t matter, the assumption is that you can hit the shot you call.

Elk fever should not be an option either. We’re big boyz and wouldn’t be shooting if shaking like a leaf.

Between his 2 front legs but not til he stops if quartering towards. Broadside, one more step then right behind that shoulder.
No shot if he's more than 20 yds out.
