Just returned from the Doctor, 14 staples removed from my butt! Total hip replacement 11 days ago, tried to hold off until December, no go, bone on bone! 5 day's on a walker, security stick along for the daily walks, up to 1/2 mile morning ,afternoon, and evening. Elk hunt in WY starts 9/14. Bear baits starting out next week here in WI, only one client this year for a 5 day hunt. My previous 4 hunters all scored the first day, hope the luck continues? Have a couple of young studs lined up for the recovery in case it's a brute!

Purchased permits, booked hotel, confirmed with Boss i'm taking the WHOLE deer season off work (and mentioned to the wife...I'll have to mention it to her a few more times...cause she tends to forget...then freaks when I'm packing the week before and she asks, "where you going?").

Been watching food and ramping up workouts (I hit gym 3-4 times a week currently...will up cardo and leg training).

To be completed:
  • Purchase 15x nocs, or spotting scope
  • finish repairs on the 2500HD
  • sight in 7mm MAG
  • get through Daughter's senior, and final season of HS softball!
  • finish up a few senior photography sessions (Aug - October)

Bought 4 new tires for my hunting/cargo trailer. (Some of you might remember my post on the conversion to a hunting trailer) Going to the range next week to verify my zero on my 25-06. I will also be doing one more scouting trip in a few weeks. I also am going to change the oil in my quad.

My season for antelope here in Colorado is the first 7 days of October.

I did something really different and made a 3D model of a unit I'm hunting for the first time this fall and put a satellite view & land ownership boundaries overlay on it. It's 10"x12" and only weighs a few ounces.

It was a great project, but more expensive to make than I thought and a lot more involved because I took the time to figure out how to do it start to finish on my own. Now that I've gone through the learning curve it would go way, way quicker next time. It turned out really cool. You can't beat it for looking over the unit as a whole because it brings everything together visually.

You would make money with that idea I believe.

lets see what it looks like hoshour:) today I made sure my gun was all ready for October deer;)
I've got that yet to do. I found out when I was looking through the B&C submission guidelines for my goat that my Burris Eliminator, being an automatic rangefinding scope, would eliminate any trophy I shot from B&C listing. So I've got it up for sale and will need to sight in the new scope when I get it. Fortunately, I shot my mountain goat with a different rifle and scope.

That seems kinds strange to me.....you can use a rangefinder separate from a scope, yet not together. I generally am in favor of the B & C rules, but this really doesn't make a lot of sense.

Well, we bit the bullet and spent my wifes graduation present on rain gear. Went with Cabelas Rain Suede bibs and coat. It was the last major thing we needed.

Getting our final list of small things we need together, and finalizing our packing list.

Five weeks to go. Hard to believe.

Well Saturday I unpacked and checked all my hunting gear. replaced battery's in rangefinder. Have logged a total of 19 miles running since Saturday. Starting tomorrow I will be walking with 50 pounds on my pack frame every other day, running at least 5 miles on the off days. Leave for Idaho in 46 days..

Started to review the camp packing list. going to do a 10 day PT test to check my physical condition. Kinda like a sim hunt with treadmill and weights work. I do that every year to evaluate another year of age and any strength or more likely weaknesses that developed. 22 days till I get in the woods.

Stairmaster and treadmill in morning, P90x shoulders and arms after work.

I'll be getting the pack out and throwing some dumbbells in to simulate the weight of pack while hunting...and logging lots of miles in the new hunting boots in the coming months. November 11th is GO-TIME!

Went to a local dude ranch and took a one hour trail ride. Haven't been on a horse for years, so I'm trying to prepare for a September sheep hunt.
