I know this is a dumb question and I feel slightly stupid for asking it but what do the animals do during these fires? I assume they move out ahead of it or around it. I would think that there would be quite a wave of animals out ahead of an 10,000 acre fire.

Fires very seldom burn 100% of the timber and brush in a area when it burns through. If you visit a burn after it is out you will find islands of green and there are usually quite a few of them. As for the animals I believe that they just move around the fire and find these little green areas to hold up in.

I have see both deer and elk in burns while they are still smoldering and then once the green grass and brush start to grow it turns into a animal heaven. They just love it.

Rain!!! Good news rain hit the fire area and slowed activity.
Good containment now but about 20,000 A have burned.
The Superscoopers are leaving already.

Here we go again.
http://laramielive.com/badger-creek-fire-flares-up-and-highway-230-closed-again/

The hot, dry and windy weather has whipped up more smoke from the Badger Creek Fire and forced a closure of Wyoming Highway 230 again.

U.S. Forest Service spokesperson Aaron Voos said the fire is close to the perimeter on the northeast corner of the fire. There are presently no evacuations and nothing major is at risk according to Voos.

“It’s just burning through new fuel, but resources are on the scene,” said Voos.

He also stated that air resources have been ordered to assist in fire suppression with retardant and water drops.

Meanwhile, Wyoming Highway 10 remains open at this time.

From the most recent update, the Badger Creek Fire was at 20,357 acres and 97 percent contained. Those figures are expected to change with more activity Thursday.

Windy and hot blew it up on Thursday. Rains today in the fire area should help, but we have wind ahead of the rain.
If it jumps 230 it will burn in to the Squirrel Creek fire scare.
Nice pics of the mosaic burn pattern on inciweb.
