Need Nebraska hunting info!

I'm wanting to maybe hunt Nebraska for deer and need some info kind of quick as it looks like the draw deadline is in a couple days! Yeah, I procrastinated... I thought I might just try to get a point this year but since I haven't drawn any deer tags yet, thought maybe I'd try to hunt? My questions are these...

*Is there a points only option or do I have to apply for a hunt to gain a point? (assuming they work on a points system?)

*I only saw three options for non-resident deer hunts (Frenchman, Platte, & Republican). Any differences I should know about other than geographical location? Do all these places have some kind of public land or walk in areas to hunt?

*Looks like I will be charged $7 to apply then the tag fee if I draw. Is that the only fees required?

* Any idea the likely hood that I'd actually draw one of these?

*I didn't see any non-resident antelope licenses available, is that correct?

I appreciate any information someone from Nebraska or someone who's hunted there can give me. If someone is willing to exchange a few text messages or a phone call, please PM me your#! Thanks...

There isn?t a point only option. Far as I know, we don?t have a point system for deer. Regs change a lot, so I might not be up on everything. These are mule deer tags (any deer actually). Whitetail you just apply in July. In Frenchman, I think 8% go to nr. In other 2 I think it is 15 % to nr. 8% of 1800 tags in Frenchman so not great odds but not a lot of nr apply.
Some walk-in areas and some public but it all gets hit hard.
Few antelope tags available so probably no nr, but maybe someone else knows for sure? Tough for residents to draw lope tags even.

What weapon are you planning on using? If you are an archery hunter, all worries go out the window as you can buy unlimited over-the-counter deer and antelope tags. For rifle and muzzleloader, than you have to go through the draw. For deer, there isn't a point system in place. There are estimated draw odds and it varies depending on the unit you choose. They do have options where you can buy a state-wide buck tag. With this option, you won't have to worry about the draw but the price tag is much, much higher.

Back to antelope...there actually is a point system for antelope (rifle and muzzeloader); however, the draw odds are terrible for nonresidents. It typically takes me 4-5 years to draw the muzzeloader tag as a resident.

I would be very careful on listening to this advice.

They do have rifle and muzzle loader statewide over the counter options but you can't shoot a mule deer in the southwestern part of the state on those tags. The statewide archery tag is over the counter and you can shoot either whitetail or mule deer. There is no preference point system but they prioritize drawings for the southwest part of the state- anyone who didn't have a mule deer conservation area tag during the previous year is placed ahead of anyone who had a tag the year before. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you have questions- would be glad to help.

I would just wait till they are available and buy one then. It?s after the mule deer area draw. They usually are available late into the fall, if not still some left by season opening.

I really appreciate everyone’s help! I started the research way to late. After finding out I drew Wyoming antelope for sure I’m less interested in another out of state hunt. And since there’s no points associated I didn’t apply. I’d like to find a place to hunt whitetail in either Nebraska or Kansas or both on years that it fits into my schedule. Mostly interested in just filling the freezer & prefer later dates. Mid November or later. I’ll take a look at it again next year!

If you are interested in KS, PM me and I can probably help a little. Nebraska is a cheaper option, but you get a buck and doe tag in KS for the price. Pretty decent draw odds, but lots of private and most public gets hunted hard depending which season you are in. Big deer in both states no doubt
