Hi I am from Nevada and have never applied for an out of state tag. I would love to hunt elk and white tail and mule deer in Idaho, Utah, Montana or Wyoming. I am not limiting my self to those states but they seem to be the most obvious DIY public land areas to hunt in. Any suggestions on where to get information about applications and areas to hunt would be welcome. I am new to this forum and really like the information I have seen so far.

I would check the fish and game websites of each states. Learn about preference points system. It may take years of applying for point before you actually draw your desired tag. If appling in a number of states i would keep a notebook or spreadsheet with all your login info, application dates, and preference points to help with organization. Nothing more frustrating than missing an application date. Good luck

Eastman's TagHub service was built specifically for people like you trying to learn the process in multiple western states. I'll let Scott chime in with more details.

Forget about Utah unless you like hunting spikes or want a tough hunt for any bull in their any bull units. You would have a long wait for any of their Limited Entry units unless you get lucky.

Head to Idaho, Montana, or Colorado and buy a tag over the counter and go hunt elk.

Think fast if going to Idaho as tags go on sale Dec 1 and are first come first serve. New changes for NR are coming with caps and restrictions. Regs will probably come out after Nov 20th meeting. They sold out last year earlier than ever.

I hope that this last year was a fluke on the tags selling out quicker than usual. There were more people out in the woods and around the lakes, I think that they just wanted to get away from all this Covid BS so they bought tags even if they didn't go hunting. I believe that I fell victim to that way of thinking down in Arizona this last fall when I tried to draw a javelina tag.

subscribe to both eastmans' magazines....and check out the members section in the back...

I also like epic outdoors, I'll continue to utilize both.

If you're applying for the first time in other states.....apply earlier than normal as you may run into different requirements in each state, like hunter saftery card/number I remember having to fax my info to nevada or utah I think... things may have changed since but none the less had I applied the day before I wouldn't have made the deadline.

good luck!

I would hope not, as they would likely lose me as a subscriber if they did. I found that Taghub wasn't of much use or interest to me primarily because I was already very familiar with the state hunting websites and the application processes of the states that I hunted. I have also burned all of my accumulated preference points and have to shift my direction some for the next few years. Having said that, I would encourage those who are not up to speed with ALL of the western state info to be a subscriber for the magazine, and to try out Taghub.
