Lefties shooting right-handed guns??

I grew up shooting right-handed shotguns and rifles because there weren't many lefty guns available. It was always a dream of mine to get a true left handed gun.

Got lefty Benelli SBE in 2001, and Browning A-bolt a few years later. Much, MUCH better shooting experience.

Was watching an Eastman's DIY Public Land Mule Deer video and there are a few left handed hunters shooting right handed guns.

Any leftys out there shooting right handed guns? Tell me the "why"?

My dad only had one eye, the left one but was right handed and always shot right handed rifles. But then back in those days there weren't too many left handed rifles other than what would make it easier such as pumps and lever actions.

My mom bought him a 300 Savage in a Savage 99 but he still preferred bolt actions.

My son started with a right hand savage in .243 as its all I had back then he could shoot.
He has several dedicated lefties now though but can still shoot either just as well.
He loves the Ruger lh laminates

I have Ambliopa (sp) aka Lazy Eye in my right eye. I am naturally right handed. Found out about it when I was 6 or 7 when my Dad tried to teach me to shoot a .22 rifle right handed. Switched to lefty and that is what I have always shot....for 70 or so years.

I always shot a right handed bolt action rifle because that all that there was available. I shoot a handgun righthanded sighting with my left eye. When lefty bolts came out, I tried one and it just didn't feel right to me. This situation is what got me started making stocks. Right handed bolts with a lefty cheekpiece.

I won't shoot a right handed eject semiauto shotgun as it sprays junk in my face. I do shoot right handed pumps, but mostly O/U or SxS. Guess I too old to change as I am used to the way I shoot and have a bunch of guns with custom stocks that I made.

Besides most of my big game hunting are one shot kills.....LOL.

I've always shot right handed guns. When I was little there wasnt much in the way for lefty guns, and after shooting them my whole life, I've just gotten used to it.
I'll continue to buy and shoot right handed shotguns, and don't really mind shooting right handed rifles. The only real bother for me, is shooting right handed bolt action rifles, since I carry the gun on my left shoulder, the bolt grinds into my hip.

I'm right handed for everything I do aside from shooting. When I was younger my dad only had a right handed gun and a right handed bow but he eventually got me a left handed recurve to shoot and I just dealt with the right handed guns. Occasionally I'll get some blow back from powder or a hot brass down the shirt but I'll deal with it. Like Fink said though, those bolts are definitely not real comfortable when they dig into your side when your hiking around.

I'm a certified NASP archery coach for our school teams and I do have to admit that being a left handed archer really makes things easier when I'm trying to explain things to our kids and they're right handed shooters. They get a kick out of challenging me to shootouts with them but they make sure I shoot right handed. What I don't tell them is that I can shoot almost as well right handed as I can left handed.

My brother shoots left handed because he is left eye dominant. Everything else he does right handed. Shoots right handed gun because that's what we could find and what we had in the family. We didn't get new guns until he or I could afford them. We just shot dads guns growing up, he got used to right handed guns, and the rest is history. He doesn't want to spend the money on a lefty

I am left handed. When I was a kid, I started out with a right handed single shot Stevens bolt action 22. I got pretty quick at getting off second and third shots at the ground squirrels in the field behind the house. I now have some left handed bolt guns but I also have right handed bolt guns, right handed semi-autos, and right handed pumps. The main reason for the right handed guns is because the particular caliber or model I wanted was not available in a left hand version. I have two rifles that I shoot mainly prone or from the bench - one is left handed and one is right. From those positions, the right handed bolt is actually easier for me to use.
