got to be honest. if I carried a handgun the most likely outcome would be shooting my peter off.

while that could very well classify me as a "sharpshooter" it would not be conducive to a great hunt.:D

How about a Taurus Judge revolver....410/45 Colt. It is around $400. I have a S & W .50 and it is a real handful to shoot, and heavy too.
I've always liked the idea of this setup. .45 in every other hole and a .410 home defense round in the other holes.

Cowboy,.45/.410 new to me..Make and model? I have to buy a Christmas gift for Me!
Google Taurus Judge revolver. Made by Taurus, a Brazilian Company. Pretty decent gun for the $$. Offered in several finishes and barrel lengths. They are illegal in some states like California.

In a 3" .410 load there are 5 00 buckshot slugs. They penetrate 15" into a gelatin mass.

12 ga. with stout slugs or 44 Mag with hard cast bear loads in Brown Bear country, S&W Shield in .40 elsewhere with 200 gr. Hard cast bear loads. Strongly considering just going with a Glock 20 in 10mm with hard cast bear loads, 220-230 ish grains, for all woods carry and the 12ga if boating. I do like the idea of a Judge/Governor revolver, especially in rattle snake country.

My hunting partner has one.
It's a pretty sweet handgun.

I have a Taurus Judge in .45 colt/.410, but S&W makes a "Governor" that shoots .45 colt/.410 & .45 acp. More moola but a better gun IMO. When in bear country I carry either a S&W mountain gun in .41 magnum or a Ruger Super RedHawk in .454 Casull/.45 Colt.

I have a Glock 19 Gen 4 - 9mm and a Tarus tracker .44 mag that is ported.

Both hurt my ears but if I fire the .44 without hearing protection you will have to use sign language or a pen and paper to communicate with me for three days....
