Good Boots?

Coming out to Wyoming for the first time this fall on an antelope hunt and plan on doing a lot of walking. Any recommendations on a good boot for the hunt? I would prefer the boots be carried by Cabelas or Sportsmans Warehouse since both are close to me but I would consider ordering for the right boot.

Go with zero insulation well built leather boots. Plan on cactus. Find a boot that fits well and feels comfortable. I wear Danner but a gob of choices out there- find what fits you best. I would also bring winter boots along- every now and then you may end up having an early winter storm.

What boots are you wearing now?

I have found that it takes me a while to really get to where I like a boot no matter how many I try on and hike around in. Then usually once I find one that I really like the manufacture usually discontinues it where I can't buy any more and am back to square one.

I had one pair of these kind of boots from Cabela's, they are now discontinued and I am trying another pair that I really don't feel all that comfortable in but they do work.

Kenetreks are awesome and the crisp line. Cabelas Mendel boot has been ok. I put it up against my Kenetreks this spring and the KENETREK won hands down. Like was said, try on. Danner is loved by lots of hunters but they don't work for me. Good luck. Love me a good boot.

I have a boot review coming tomorrow on the Crispi Valdres boots. Great option.

I guess I am lucky. most boots are just fine for me. but then I where boots practically every day of the year and put some miles on em most every day. feet are so calused up,I don't even know if it is still possible to blister em anymore .some need a breaking in period ,most don't.
.
danners have always been comfy right outa box. bout the only one I ever bought that hurt my feet at first was timberland . once I wore em awhile they were just fine

Try many pairs and go with what fits you. I have been loving my Lowa Renegades. I like the shorter boots. Go all leather. The cactus will go through even some thin leather.

Danner when I need insulated and a higher 10-12 inch boot and Kennetrek Bridger Highs when I need more of a warm weather hiking type for the earlier seasons.

I've used the Danner Pronghorns with good results in flatter country like that. My favorite in-insulated boot good for flat or steep terrain is the Kennetrek Mountain Extreme. I wear cowboy boots for work all the time with no ankle support and have very loose ankles. For me that means anytime I might spend a lot of time walking on sidehills, especially with a heavy pack, I want a stiff boot.

Because I'm mainly bored at work....links above to educate on loose ankles :)

Back to the regularly scheduled program discussing boots.

Whatever you buy make sure they have a tough thick sole and tough protective sides because it's literally a pain to get cactus thorns through the bottom of your boot or in your toes while making a stalk and not paying attention.

If its Cabelas I agree with 480/277 the light Meindl boots are a good choice, I have also used the proghorns in the past with good results.
