And some good gloves.....lots of tiny cactus. The weather will be hot and miserable and you'll be crawling across the pokey ground if your going to spot and stock, bring knee pads they will be a lifesaver! And an extra pair of pants.
Unit 10 can be tough with a bow. Often there is monsoon weather in Arizona in archery season. If you can't hunt a water hole with a blind.... good luck!
a bit mad I burned my AZ pts on a archery unit 10 antelope hunt.
but there's always NM, WY, NV to makeup for it.
but I think from now on, me and antelope will be rifle hunting, unless it's over a water hole with a blind...
I'm going on my first Pronghorn hunt in Sept. with my bow. Is it wrong to want one that's meaty? I'm not real worried about the horns yet. I'll get horns later.Learn how to field judge them. The biggest buck in a buch may not be a big buck at all.
Here's my quick reference. An antelope eye is about 2" across. You want the horn bases to be at least that wide. An antelope ear is about 6" long. You want the horn to be at least twice as long as the ear. You want the prong to be long. I will also add to the score if the prong is high on the horn.
An antelope meeting all of that is decent or a good average.
It's also good to determine ahead of time what you really like about an antelope. Score, wide horn spread, classic heart-shape horns, odd shape horns, long prongs....
Pour over pictures and figure out what you want and what you like. Then go find one.
No it's not. That's just what my dad used to say.I'm going on my first Pronghorn hunt in Sept. with my bow. Is it wrong to want one that's meaty? I'm not real worried about the horns yet. I'll get horns later.
Well, I'm not paying a guide for a "trophy" and I'm not taking my rifle where I could pick and choose which one. I figure if I can get One within bow range, I'll be doing good.No it's not. That's just what my dad used to say.![]()
You'd be shocked how many I have had run up to 30 or 40 yards to check me out. Typically antelope hunting is full of action. I'm not sure where you are hunting, or what state.Well, I'm not paying a guide for a "trophy" and I'm not taking my rifle where I could pick and choose which one.
