    Rethinking my loads/calibers for deer.

You are right about the wind, everything happened so fast there was no way to really look at the grass/brush to see how much and what direction the wind was. It swirls around in a canyon and changes direction a lot. I had 2 spotters with binos looking as I was shooting and no bullet strike was...

    Rethinking my loads/calibers for deer.

I have 200 150 gr bullets that I don't use much. Want better performance in the wind. The 150's are faster and shoot flatter.

    Rethinking my loads/calibers for deer.

Some of you have probably read my post about this years antelope/deer hunt in Wyoming and know about my encounter with a buck deer of a lifetime. A little background: my primary deer/antelope caliber has been 25-06 since the early 70's. I have killed over 100 deer & antelope using my Ruger M77...

    Hornady Precision Hunter

You have received some great advice. It is difficult for a bullet to perform the same at 100 yards and 400+ yards. The bullet slows down a lot and that effects expansion. Hitting bone on the way into the animal also has a big effect on expansion. You made the right decision to stick with the...

5.56 Coyote Load? 223? FMJ? HPBT?

The trouble with .22 cal (.556) fmj bullets is that the jacket is really thin and easily peeled back or split, resulting in what you saw in the test.

Home From Wyoming Antelope & Deer Hunt

Monday Morning QB...... Looking back, I probably should have taken my .300 Wby. I thought about it, but I have total confidence in my .25-06. The .300 with my 180gr elk load would have been better in the wind that we had. It shoots sub moa groups out to 500 yds and has a Leupold Ballistic...
