It has rained everyday since I made the original post. We got over 1" on Sunday night! There has been some flooding and roads washed out near Telluride. Hope we get some more before fall gets here, the mts were pretty dry the last time I was there a month ago.

Guess we'll know in awhile.

I remember the first buck deer I got that was in the velvet. I was probably 18 or 19 at the time. I striped all the velvet off, washed the blood off and used light brown wax shoe polish to finish off the horns. They were pretty ugly!!

Here is a 5x5 mule deer that was shot at Malibu. Now nothing but million dollar estates of movie stars.

The only problem is that it is pretty far to Fallon for shopping.

Not like when I was a youngster. I lived in a suburb of LA (Downey) and we used to drive 1/2 hour to 3/4 hr and hunt deer, quail, pheasants and rabbits. It's all houses and malls now. My Dad killed tons of deer in Malibu where we had 10 acres of land. Fishing in the ocear used to be outstanding...

It was a great place to live in the 40's thru the about 1980. I was born there and lived there until I was 58 and retired to Colorado in 2000. I am a 4th generation Californio. I had a great career there. But it just got to liberal to suit me. Used to be some great hunting and fishing there.

We are going to Austin, Nv probably in Sept to look at 10 acres. It is part of the old homestead my GGGrandfather had in the 1880's. It has part of the old stone cabin he built on the original 160 acres.

So where is it and how much ground did you get? Really looks wonderful!

I get one mailed to me when I draw successfully. I have one from 2019. I'll let you know if I get one for 2020, as I do have a deer tag.

I have the CDS Turrets on all my rifles. In my opinion, if you are shooting 500 yards or less, you are not going to really see much difference. At extreme ranges , I don't know because I don't shoot beyond 500 yds.

Just looked at the regs and found nothing pertaining to magazines. Only calibers allowed. I\The regs say mention that firearms that are legal on your homestate are also legal in Wy. I would call them for sure.

I use Reloader 25 in my Wby. But my Weatherby is not a factory rifle. A friend of my Dad's got too old to hunt and gave me the rifle. It was bought from a custom smith in the early 60's. It has a commercial Mauser action. When I got it the barrel was gone so I rebarreled it with a Shilen...

Like JimP...one bullet, one load. Been shooting that way since I started reloading over 60 years ago.

For over 50 years I have used Sierra Game Kings in my 25-06 and my .257 Wby (117 gr BT Game Kings) for deer and antelope. In my 30-06 I also use Sierra Game Kings (150 gr BT).

I wonder how they track a convicted poacher who has been banned from hunting in the "compact" states.

Do the comparison with the .300 Wby and 180 gr bullets. Much better ballistics than a 30-06 with 178gr bullets. Here is the deal.....dead is dead no matter what it is shot with. My handloads (mv 3250) with 180 noslers kills them dead out to 500 yards (that's as far as I will shoot) holding dead...
