How many of you will get the Covid shot?

I went to work and karate class the next day. But, I should have taken a picture as I was black & blue almost to my knees. I don't suppose that you would want to see that posted here anyway.

When Did You Kill Your First Elk?

I had only been out west hunting 30 years before on a whim & a prayer DIY hunt (unsuccessful). If I only knew then what I have learned since..... So, at 54 I figured it was time to make that once in a lifetime hunt and to book with an outfitter. We hunted hard, and since I had both a deer and...

    jocularity

I've tried to stay out of the political discussion for the most part, and feel that we don't need to make this a political forum. BUT, this was too good to pass up. In regards to the media; "When a Republican is in the Oval Office, they all want to be Bob Woodward. But, when a Democrat...

How many of you will get the Covid shot?

My wife and I got our first dose yesterday. The only side effect so far is minor soreness at the injection site (my arm, not the hospital). However, I should note that kiddoggy was correct about one thing. I am now sterile. Of course the vasectomy that I had decades ago may also be a factor.

    Rain jacket

I also have the KUIU Chugach, and the best thing that I can say about them is that it has never rained when I had them with me. No kidding, and I am talking about over 40 days in multiple states. I could probably hire out to travel to areas that are flooding, sort of an opposite of the...

How many of you will get the Covid shot?

Well, it looks like both my wife and I are successfully registered for our first shot tomorrow morning. I have a Canada canoe trip in the NW Territories in August, and expect the Canuks to require vaccination to cross the border. If I die from it, I'll let you know.

30-06 and 180 gr bullet load suggestions

I agree with memtb on liking the performance of Barnes bullets. I only ended up using a Nosler Partition for my last cow elk because it had an accuracy edge for my rifle. I use Barnes TSX in my .338 and it has smoked 3 bull elk (2 at 60ish yards, and one at 480 yards). In all cases the...

    Who taught you to hunt?

My dad took my brother and I hunting a few times, but he wasn't passionate about it. But, when I was 14 I met a classmate at my new school (we moved every few years for my dad's job), and he was consumed by it. Brad's father was the Jr. High science teacher, and a real gun guy. He even...

How many of you will get the Covid shot?

I have no qualms about the vaccine...none. My wife and I are on the eligibility list, but have been unable to sign up yet. I am prioritizing for my wife since I am in better physical shape, and believe that I had the bug early last year. Most of my buds in the same age group have had the...

    Who else is...

It was -31.5 degrees at 7:30am today. Jeeesch!!! It may be time to set up the gym again in the shop since I don't have any major wood project to work on. I looked at the plans to build a solo canoe, but since I already have four canoes it isn't likely to ever be used.

    Hunting Solo?

When I was still 17 the summer before I joined the Marines, I spent 3 months mostly solo in a canoe wilderness. My longest stretch without any human contact was 23 days. When you have the right partner though, shared experiences can often be the best of times. The comradery of the deer camp...

30-06 and 180 gr bullet load suggestions

I found that my Tikka T3 prefers 165 grain, in that groups are 1/2" tighter. It isn't enough of a difference to make a difference until longer range, but I suggest if you have the bullets that you load some 165 and 180 gr. and also try different powder measures. Such is part of the fun in...

After a similar experience I can definitely say, "I hate when that happens." As far as exercise today; It is -27.8, so I may just stand on my back porch and shiver for a while.

    Christensen arms

In the for what it's worth column, I was stuck in Rapid City, SD with a blown transmission, and on one of my walk-abouts found that the Sheels store had quite a few CA rifles in various configurations in stock.

    lion roast

I am surprised that some states G&F don't require the full utilization of meat from predators. I have found that even non-hunters generally don't have reservations about hunting when it is used as a source of food. I've eaten quite a few bears through the years, but would balk at coyote or...

    First OTC hunt questions

You need to keep in mind that most of the hunting shows, and even stories in Eastmans and the MRS are geared towards the biggest critters on the mountain. Consider OTC as opportunity areas that give you the guaranteed tag, and a chance at a real "trophy". In an "any elk" area, on an OTC unit...

    30-06, 270 Win, 243 Win, or 30-30 available.

It has been a great sport for some of the marginalized kids who aren't "jocks" , superstars, class leaders, etc. Everyone is essentially competing with themselves and you never know who is going to excel. Males really have no clear advantage over females, and you never know who is going to...

    Wyoming Lion Hunt

Well, my wife and I finally cooked up some of that lion, and you can find the full post on the "Cook-em-up thread." We made a roast in the Insta-Pot and tasted it before we had anything else. The verdict; it was 95% like pork, in appearance, texture, and taste. After putting the gravy on it...

    lion roast

I have a post in the predator thread about my recent mountain lion hunt, and had some discussion on eating one. I have no prior experience with the culinary possibilities of mt. lion other than the anecdotal "tastes like chicken". Well let me tell you folks right here, that "it don't". I...
