I like the way this guy thinks, good excuse a new rifle. I love my 340 Weatherby and 225 grain Barnes TTSX bullets at 3000fps

    Trip Insurance

I have no idea anymore of who I used for trip insurance when I headed over to Africa 4 years ago but I believe that the travel agent that I used was a agent to sell the insurance. Check out Travel Express on the web and see if they are offering it.

Depending on who you talk to the amount of energy to humanly kill a elk is in the 1000-1500 ft/lbs at the range that you are shooting them at. According to Hornady's site they are showing 1721 ft/lbs of energy at 400 yards and I have found that factory published figures to be quite a bit less...

You need to look at a ballistic chart and see what those bullets are doing at that range as far as velocity and energy.

Just don't over complicate it this close to a season. My closest shot on a elk with my loads was at 15 yards and it stopped on the far side skin, the elk ran 100 yards and I finished it with a second shot. The first shot was a kill shot but with elk you need to work on the idea that if they...

    Leaving In The AM

Home again, home again lickity dig. Well, after a couple more nights my brother in law decided to call off the elk hunt. Between being 79 and having to chase the elk where elk are at he decided that a hot shower, soft bed, and a warm house is better than what we were living in. So it was home...

Just because you didn't get a pass through is no reason to change ammo. Did the elk die? Did the bullet do it's job when it went through the internals of the elk? Lots to be looked at here. I have had complete pass through shots on elk at 300 yards and with the same ammo I have had it stop...

Thanks everyone for the complements. But now the saga continues. My brother in law got some stitches and after sitting around a couple of days decided that he wanted a go at it. So back to the Book Cliffs we went. We had found another herd of around 60 elk with a number of spikes in it...

The 2019 Mule Deer Success Thread!

I'll just throw this one back in on this thread since this is the mule deer success thread, I have already posted it in my own thread. It is hard to get a true trophy picture with someone in it when you are by yourself.

    .264 Win Mag on Elk

Berger makes a hunting bullet but I will stick with Barnes. You dont need a sub moa rifle or bullet to kill a deer or a elk, however all of my hunting loads are sub moa out to 600 yards with the Barnrs TTSX

    .264 Win Mag on Elk

Elk are hard animals to kill at times. I've have had them drop like a rock and I have seen them absorb a lot of bullets before they dropped all from the same rifle and loads all put into the right place. But I do have to agree on trying a different bullet other than Bergers

The results are in, 4 stitches on one finger and 3 on the other. He is done on the elk hunt but should be healed up for the deer hunt in unit 21 in a couple of weeks. Looks like we are going fishing

    Leaving In The AM

As of last night the spike hunt is off. As my brother in law was preparing dinner he must of figured that there was not enough meat in the stew and tried to cut two of his fingers off with a knife that I had just sharpened. So now I am sitting at home trying to convince him that he needs a...

Just reporting in since I have some service We found a unique white spike elk but naturally we were sitting in the wrong location for a shot and another hunter bagged him. But today I bagged a couple of dusky grouse for dinner. We also found another herd of around 70 elk, my brother in law...

Yep, just remember that if you shoot a small buck you can't tag out on a big buck. I have ate a lot of tag soup looking for this guy Thanks for all the comments.

Here are a couple of better pictures. I along with others hate the thumbnail photos. I have Tuesday to recuperate and then we are headed to the Utah Book Cliffs for a general season spike elk hunt. We tried to find a spike on the Monroe Mountain but all we could find out there were huge...

    Colorado 44 2nd season

Not knowing the area can be real tough. A lot of big bucks hang out on the Hermits south of Eagle, but it is all oaks and is one mean mother. Other than that find the meanest and nastiest canyon that you can think of and head into it
