    Miracle shot

I am a so-so shotgunner, a respectable rifle shot, and have always been a superb pistol shot. I think it goes back to my days as a police officer when I was on the state pistol team using my Colt Python. When I attended the FBI Academy 25 years ago, I missed the "Possibles Board" by one shot...

    Miracle shot

Here's a coyote that I got while snowmobiling in Montana last year. As a retired police officer, I have a CC that is valid in all the states, and in today's world find that I am packing most of the time. We were snowmobiling in ID,WY, & MT, and I had checked the laws on yotes and was good to...

    Exit Wounds..lets see them.

Yeah Scott it sure was, but I still came back with a freezer full. Right on the shoulder is not my preferred spot, but from 550 yards, I guess that I can't complain about it too much. It does show just how tough those Barnes bullets are. I actually put 3 shots on that bull, the 1st thru his...

    Exit Wounds..lets see them.

This was the front shoulder on a mature 6x6 bull elk. This was the entry side, and the bullet shattered the far shoulder also with the pictured bullet found in the meat of the far shoulder. 550 yards, .338 WM, 185 gr. Barnes TSX.

2017 elk success thread, post em up

I finally got my photos downloaded. My CO deer hunt was unsuccessfull, but the guided WY elk hunt turned out to be another fabulous adventure. Six of us headed out from Minnesota on Oct. 20th, and spent a couple nights in Jackson to start the acclimation process. We ranged in age from 17...

    Washington Disabled Vet tags

There doesn't seem to be much activity ref. the state of Washington on this forum, and I suppose that is for a reason. I had previously researched the various western states for tags that are available to disabled veterans, but most are applicable to those without the physical abilities to hunt...

    Leupold customer service

I just received my Leupold scope back via UPS. I have owned several of their scopes and never had a problem with one. Unfortunately my VariXIII took a hard hit on a 15' drop off my deer stand last season. Leupold acknowledged the receipt of the scope via e-mail, and ended up replacing a...

Pros and Cons: Muzzle Mule Deer

I can only reference this relating to WY and CO. As was stated, it is generally easier to draw a tag in a particular unit for the MZL season than for the rifle season. For instance, in the 3 units in CO that I have applied for or hunted in the past, it took 2 to 3 times as many points for a...

    Co. archery elk

Here's what a 260" bull looks like. I have taken two others that were much bigger, but sure wasn't going to pass on this one. It only looks small when it is hanging next to a 320".

Help for son's Colorado Unit 43 muzzleloader mule deer hunt.

Congrats on a good trip. I also missed the earlier post, or would have made some suggestions. When any of us find a particular unit that we are successful in and hope to hunt again, we tend to be reluctant to offer much on line because it will change the draw odds. There's nothing like a...

missed the draw but still want to hunt deer

If you can take the risk, you can find a site that has tags listed, and monitor it until a week or two before the season starts. I didn't draw in any of the units I applied for in 2012, and didn't hunt that year. I swore that I would never let that happen again, so when I was shut out if 2014...

    Winchester Super Grade .280 Remington

I'm just putting out feelers for a friend of mine. He won a NIB Winchester Super Grade (Limited 1 in 500) that were made for fundraising events. He is going along with me next year for his first guided elk hunt, and he was thinking that he has more adequate rifles than the .280 for elk. I...

    Advice on large binoculars

I would appreciate some input here about a binocular purchase. I have read through the posts for the last year or so, so I have a fair idea of what the general thought is. I have hunted WY and CO over a dozen times so far, and have four more trips in the works. I just can not get myself to...

    Old Timer First Timer

I finally got my photos downloaded, so thought I would give a report on my first antelope hunt. I have made about a dozen trips west for deer or elk over the past few years, and was building points for antelope for when I was too damn old to hike up in the mountains anymore. Anyway, this year...

    September Snows

I posted a review of my new KUIU 2P tent that I used on a backpack hunt into the Wyoming range on the deer opener. I won't redo the review, but was completely satisfied with the tent for the conditions that we were confronted with. This is my third time into this spot, and was more worried...
