    and it's only September 9th!

How's that snow working on damping down the Colorado fires?

Enjoy your 10 days up north Marcus. I wouldn't lament too much about the missed bear hunt, sometimes a change of direction leads to something even more rewarding. Don't eat too much fried fish or drink too much beer and you'll come back home in fine shape.

    6.5 To kill an elk?

Looking at that comparison video, my biggest take-away was that the main advantage that the 6.5 C had over the 308 was reduced recoil. The ballistics don't really come into play until 600-700 yards, and IMO, no one has any business shooting at big game at that distance. I have sold my .243...

    Remington 770 beater rifles

Well I did make it to Wally World yesterday. The firearms section was up and running, apparently they had just been remodeling. The 4 packs of Federal trap loads were $19.54, so I bought four of them. I quickly perused the rifles, but didn't see any spectacular deals.

    Opening Day Montana Mountain Goat

What a great photo setting. That goat must have been DRT to end up it that spot.

    Moose spray?

I've never had to use my bear spray (yet), but did use the smaller canister O.C. multiple times as a police officer. I never used it on a person primarily because if you mace a guy, you will be arresting him and then putting him in your squad for transport. You may as well spray yourself while...

    The July/August Fat Off

I had to look back to remember when "The Challenge" ended. Sept. 1st...…. That leaves me with -6#. I should have gone with the giardia plan, as that is easily good for 10# in just a couple days!

    Remington 770 beater rifles

I plan to check it out when I'm in town on Tuesday. Last week they had 12 Ga.A. trap loads (Federal Top Gun) for $5 a box. Those who reload at the gun club told me their cost to reload is about $5.59 per box, so if they're still available will just have to carry out what I can. I sure don't...

    Access Yes

Many of the Search & Rescue are volunteers who have to take time away from their jobs and families to look for lost souls. The ambulance/helicopters do get their big payday, but that doesn't generally come out of S&R funds. I have never shot an animal on access yes areas, but drive...

Pack weight up to 52#; I think that I will hold it at that weight for the next week of training. The total goes up about 12# more once I add the rifle, ammo, 15x56 binos and tripod. OOF DAH!! Hopefully some of this can be shifted over to my partner when we have our final packing meet next...

    Remington 770 beater rifles

I noticed that the local Walmart has removed the firearms section from their store. There is still some ammo, but that was discounted so perhaps there is a plan to eliminate that too. Was there a corp. decision about this? If so, then I will do the same as when Dick's quit selling ammo and...

List your favorite game processors here

Is there any place still open in Jackson. WY? I normally do my own, but this year will be on a 12 day backpack hunt with a partner, and meat management may become an issue. It appears that Hogg Island meats is no longer in business. There is Dana Cold Storage in Thayne, WY, but is 60 miles in...

    Who else is...

Back on track with my pack training. 3.4 mile fast hike with pack; today's wt. is 32# which will be increased over the next couple weeks. This routine served me well on my scouting trip in WY in late July, so my goal is to stay healthy and avoid injury.

Cabin Build - Timeline with lots of pics.

I don't know why anyone is sweating and swearing about the cost of things right now. All you have to do is wait until after the election in November, after which everything will be free.

Colorado Women Going Topless om Mtn Tops

That is likely because of Alaska's mosquito population. Much like NE Minnesota where I live.

    Dry?

I spent several days at Green River Lakes and we almost got washed out while we were leaving, and the T-storms followed us all the way north to Idaho. The vegetation on my scouting trip in the Wyoming Range was 2 or 3 times higher than 4 trips in the past 10 years.

    The July/August Fat Off

I just got back from a month long trip west. I did a overnight scouting trip in the Wyoming Range and it was in the top toughest things I've done in the last few years. Wasn't gone long enough to lose much weight, then staying with my wife's relatives after that kind of kiboshed any further...

    Hammer Bullets

Sorry, didn't mean to scare anyone with that first photo. This was the result from a 480 yard shot on a 6x6 bull elk using a .338 WM. 185 gr, Barnes TSX, muzzle velocity 3034 fps (handloads). It completely shattered both shoulders and I found the intact bullet under the far side hide. DRT

    Who else is...

This will be my last post here for a while. My wife and I are headed out early for Wyoming, then on to WA for some family time. It will be hard to be too strict on a diet while staying at someone else's house, but will likely be able to get in a couple hours of dog walking time each day. But...
