    2020 Whitetail Success Thread

Congrats to your wife.....that shot looks perfect if it was a straight thru. I made a similar shot once from a deer stand and the downward angle worked against me, so I try to aim a bit higher when a similar situation occurs. Nice follow-up.

    Backcountry or Base camp?

I agree with Slugz. Bring the provisions to do both and you will let the conditions that you find dictate what you do. On my recent WY deer hunt we had backpacked in and set up a base camp that most would call a spike camp. However, we were seeing plenty of deer right near camp and decided to...

Daughter holds the biggest buck in the household

I'm jealous too, BUT you gotta love it. Good for the both of you and here's to more of the same in the future.

    NW Colorado Archery Muzzleloader Report

Those cows almost look like they're ready to give birth. I know, it's the wrong time of year, but their habitat must have been giving them what they needed.

    EHJ Black Bear Hunt

No record book, but tagged two 4x4 deer and three 6x6 elk. I have posted them all on the forum at one point or another, and my avitar pic is with my biggest WY elk from 2013. That was a classic hunt, 3' of fresh snow, day 4, elk spotted from almost 4 miles away, long horse-back ride, long...

    EHJ Black Bear Hunt

I just got my EHJ (Oct/Nov 2020) and was reading Ben Fabre's story of his Wyoming bear hunt. He mentioned his guides name (Nate) and later his horses name (Griz) and that was familiar, so I looked at the end of the story and sure enough found the outfitter was Trophy Mountain Outfitters (TMO)...

Boom time or Doom time where you live?

Homes and rental prices are falling in the areas that people are "fleeing". They are part of what is driving up prices elsewhere. Everyone can fill in the blank where those places are

Boom time or Doom time where you live?

Good God CC, that single slice alone looks like 4,000 calories. That's what makes it good though. Marcus...don't even attempt this (as much as we all want to.)

Boom time or Doom time where you live?

I live in NE Minnesota, 22 miles from the nearest small town, and at the end of a mile long private driveway. I had a guy drive his UTV to my place yesterday looking for directions to a neighbors. So, I guess that constitutes a BOOM! Actually though for tourism on the north shore of Lake...

What Is Your Go To Hunting Knife?

I intentionally left my hunting knife behind on my last DIY mule deer hunting trip, initially as a weight saving for the brutal pack-in, but also to force me to use the disposable blade knives that I recently got. They did the job for my partner's deer, but I truly missed my A.G. Russell 3 3/8"...

    Questions about Wyoming Preference Points

Just make sure that anyone who plans to hunt with you buys points also, as your points are averaged if you apply together as a party. Even just one or two points gives you more options when you do apply for tags, as many of the easy to draw with 0 points areas have access issues.

    Bear attack (sorta?)

Here is a pic of me shortly after a bear attack in the spring of 2011. Well, not really, as it was just makeup during my Wilderness First Responder (WFR) training.

    Animals in Packs!

This was a tough pack out. After a 6 1/2 hour pack into camp, I decided to spike out further from our base, leaving my hunt partners to hold down the fort. My spike was only 1/3 mile from camp, but 1,300 ft. higher. Shot this buck at 7:10am the next morning. Not my biggest buck, but...

    Your Biggest Buck

Spend 9 days up on the mountain in WY this fall, and passed on a 4x4 for the first time as I was holding out for one bigger than those pictured below. Didn't happen. Still had a great time and will keep on trying.

    Win M70

I have that exact same rifle, right down to the year of purchase. I put a Redfield Widefield 3x9 on it way back then and it has taken deer, elk, and even bison w/o fail. Today I would be content to put a VX3 with Boone & Crocket reticle on it. It was never a MOA shooter until I did a little...

    Who else is...

Right on BC. The biggest mistake that I made on my first marathon many years ago was that I lined up near the front of the pack (right behind the "elite" runners). So, I got caught up in the pace and enthusiasm of that group and held a sub 5:30 pace for the first 8 miles. Too fast, too soon...

Yup, I agree. He couldn't have brought those "guns" into Canada for his bear hunt anyway.
