    Wyoming General Elk party application

It's a long shot but is anyone planning to use 6+ points for a general elk tag next year? I am interested in partying with someone for the draw. I have 1 point and likely won't be able to draw. 3.5+ points should draw. I am not looking for a hunting partner as I have a group of Wyoming...

    Wyoming Family Hunt

Agreed- It wasn't that long ago a guy could just buy leftover doe tags in areas with a gob of public land. Gets tougher every year. I'm thinking I need to re-visit a Wyoming retirement plan.

    Wyoming Family Hunt

Sigpros, no this wasn't my normal area. I have hunted this area before for does though. It's too tough to draw doe tags where I like to hunt. This area does have a lot of public land and typically plenty of antelope though. Hunting 1 week after the opener didn't do me any favors.

    Best Western Caliber?

If you are staying inside of 400 yards, a 30-06 should be strongly considered. Ammo is available in virtually every location on the planet. It isn't one of the new glamorous rounds but it is a tried and true, effective, western big game cartridge. I hunt exclusively with one shooting 165...

Boot Conditioners And Treatments, What Do You Use?

For my hunting boots, I use the Danner clear boot dressing. My work boots get regular motor oil- works very good...

    Primos Trigger Stick

The bipod and tripod have a rubber strap that keeps the feet together so can be used as a walking stick. 5 years later and mine still works like new. In my opinion, the tripod is the way to go. The stability they offer, especially on side hills, is great. My wife and I have taken elk, deer...

    Elk Unit 35 Success

7 years worth of points... I would make the rifle hunt happen. Congrats on a good archery bull. 1 out of 3 is better than the average- even for the guys that live there. Archery elk hunting is hard.

    Wyoming Family Hunt

The antelope hunt was one of the tougher ones I have experienced. We spent the first couple hours of the day trying to locate a doe in a easy to get to location but none were within 1/2 mile of a road. We finally decided we were going to have to make a long stalk and pack one out. When I was...

    Wyoming Family Hunt

I took my wife and son out with me to camp, call elk, and hunt a doe antelope- the only tag I drew this year in Wyoming. We spent the first day trying to call elk in but the action was slow. We did get one bull talking but couldn't budge him off his cows and we had little light left to pursue...

Do elk bugle much in SW Montana - units 314/360/362????

Elk bugle everywhere from my experience. If he isn't into calling elk, he isn't in the elk. They do get more daytime silent in areas with high hunting pressure.

There is a herd of elk on the lower left knob in the above pic. Not sure it's relevant but fun to find them.

    Antelope movement after dark

They do get up at night and move sometimes and are thought to have good night time vision. Any of you that have driven dark Wyoming highways should attest, they like highways for whatever reason. That said, I have generally been able to locate antelope I put to bed within a mile of where I saw...

    Wyoming considering a move?

There is a reason Wyoming has the smallest population of any state. It definitely isn't for everyone. Cost of living is climbing quickly so in general a person will sacrifice financial quality of life for the outdoor opportunities. I settled in Nebraska after moving all over the country as a...

    Rangefinders

I have used several brands through the years. A good rule to follow is effective ranging on an animal will be about 30% shorter than the yardage listed. For example, a 1000 yard range finder will typically only be able to range an animal at 700 or so yards. If you go for one of the really...
